Live At Kelly's

Susan was born and raised in Maine and was introduced to the great vocalists of Jazz and the American Songbook as a child. Often asked to sing at family gatherings, she developed a solid, confident stage presence at numerous amateur events. More than her engaging presence was her grasp of the meaning of the lyrics that she sang. Susan has always honored the songs and has captivated audiences with her emotional honestly and attention to the lyrics.

On a dare from her older sister, Susan studied classical voice as a teenager from Freda Masse who was retired from the Metropolitan Opera. Susan was the youngest student that Freda had ever accepted and spent two years learning the basics of vocal technique.

Although accepted as a vocalist into the Berklee College of Music, she took a detour from music and resumed her studies at the Jazz School in Berkeley, California. Susan also studies both vocal technique and music theory privately.

She has won the respect and admiration of some top musicians in the Bay area including Kelly Park, "Rocky" Tatarelli, and Earl Davies. She is a humble student of the complex Jazz genre and is honored to learn from the gifted musicians she is fortunate enough to be associated with.
