notes

Christmas Lights and Latin Nights is an inspiring CD! A blend of traditional with a fresh new approach to Christmas music. Sometimes instrumental music speaks in ways that songs that are sung cannot. People who listen to this are buying several CD's to give as gifts to family and friends because they know they will love the music. Listen and get hooked.

Randall Ames is a composer/arranger residing in southern California where he owns and operates a digital recording studio. It is there where he constructs his works of art from the initial inception to the finished product--the written arrangement and the recording. With a vast array of software synthesizers and digital recording equipment, he fashions the ideas, the structure, the arrangements and the orchestrations into a complete recording and then engraves the music for publication. In his studio he performs every note, every instrument, and every nuance you hear, with the help, of course, of his digital musicians.

Randall's credits include original songs and arrangements of songs in many genres. He has also written arrangements for symphonic band and orchestra. Some of his most inspiring original compositions were written for piano, musical theater, big band, contemporary and traditional Christian, and various other genres.

  • Christmas Lights and Latin Nights is an entertaining instrumental offering
    author: Carol Swanson

¡Ay caramba! As soon as Randall Ames' Christmas Lights and Latin Nights opened, I had to ask myself, "Where's the bull fight?" His Carol of the Bells explodes off the mark with crowd noise, trumpet fanfare, and great percussion accents, all thanks to the magic of software synthesizers and digital recording equipment. Ames is a one-man band, and he cleverly works his way through 13 holiday classics, applying a serious, but playful, Latin slant to every number.

  • I love this Latin flare of my Christmas favorites...
    author: Paul Burnside

"Christmas Lights and Latin Nights" by Randall Ames has to be one of the best Christmas CD's in my entire collection. The songs are upbeat and moving. I love this Latin flare of my Christmas favorites with the percussion, brass, rhythm and great guitar. If you are interested in the sheet music for this, look up on the internet "Christmas South of the Border". I bought it and am very impressed that his music is also in print. We are playing some of his songs with my band and they are a lot more difficult and fun than the normal holiday songs out there for an 8 piece group. Randall Ames has a knack for great composing and this CD is just awesome. I really like Carol of the Bells, and O Come, O Come, Immanuel for the brass section in my band. You are usually lucky to get 2 good songs on a CD, but this entire CD is incredible.

  • Wonderful, refreshing and inspiring

This CD is by far going to the top of my Christmas collection. Excellent job on the arrangements. Randall's admirable talents are certainly among the best I've heard. He truely has a talent for composing and his upbeat instrumental renditions of the songs are very unique and inspiring. I especially like the way the Carol of the Bells and Do You Hear What I Hear come alive with the various instruments and rhythms. Brilliant!

  • It's so fresh!
    author: Rick Mathews

This CD is so fresh! Not your father's Christmas album, this has great beats, excellent arrangements and it's own unique style. You can put this on during the holidays and it combines a lively, friendly sound with a remembrance of what the holidays are all about. Very nice!

  • This collection of Christmas songs is a most unique work! Bravo!

"CHRISTMAS LIGHTS AND LATIN NIGHTS" is one of the most refreshing and original takes on classic and traditional Christmas songs in a long while. I took several listens to each tune represented here. The opening fan fare is simply incredible leading you to an originally wonderful rendition of "Carol Of The Bells" as you have never heard it before. On many songs there is a reccuring musical motiff that takes the listener from the actual Christmas classic back into a wonderful latin refrain of a traditional latin tune. "Angels We Have Heard On High" is an upbeat wonderful rendition of a tune I sang in a strictly traditional sense in my many years of Catholic School education. You will be impressed. My very favorite on this CD is a new twist on the wonderful old Yuletide round song "Up On The Housetop" It's lively, inventive and perfectly spirited. For those who love the piano as I do as the principal instrument this entire CD will make you want to listen to this album over and over again! I do! It's on my car's CD player and gets played at least twice a day. Mr. Ames certainly knows how to write one hell of an arrangement. Listen closely as all the instruments he uses compliment and enhance each other perfectly! "Silent Night" is as sweet as ever and with a latin twist, it is even nicer. You really must purchase this CD-- most especially as a gift or stocking stuffer for the upcoming Christmas season. It's a flavor that has not been tried very often. From "We Three KIngs" to "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree", "Christmas Lights and Latin Nights" is a winner! It's both inventive and lyrical! Mr. Ames is an accomplished musician who has lent his talents to some pretty incredible songs as well as musical journeys such as this. "Christmas Belongs To You" in more ways than one with this masterpiece!
