Album Notes

Holidays and Homecomings presents six original acoustic songs with winter and holiday themes recorded in graceful settings of vocal harmony and acoustic instrumentation. The songs were written in the fall and winter of 2010/2011 and cover a range of experiences and emotions associated with the season. Snow Dreams, the lead off track, is a bluegrass-tinged song of hope for love's return in the beauty of winter. Christmas Magic, the second song, is a sweet, soaring celebration of holiday memories, based on Christmas stories Randall heard from his mother. Snow Angel follows, a buoyant welcome to the winter season sung by Randall's talented oldest daughter, Emma, with harmony provided by his second daughter, Grace. Next up are Christmas in the Clink, a rollicking, wryly humorous sendup of holiday excess, and Coming From Everywhere, Home, a thoughtful look at the many feelings with which we approach the gathering of families during the holidays. The CD closes with Wouldn't I Have Known, a beautifully arranged song featuring guitar, violin, and all three voices that retells the Christmas story as a meditation on the opportunities for miracles we overlook in our own lives.
