Album Notes

This project began when Andy Porter and Rex Anderson left Entertainment System and moved west. Andy pursued his doctorate in economics and Rex followed his dream of becoming an audio engineer. The two decided to continue working on VGM together, starting with unused arrangements created during their tenure in ES. As Rex gained an internship at CCM Studios in Denver, Random Battles, a Postal Service-esque VGM project was born. The two took a DIY approach to the entire album; the arrangements, performances, mixing, mastering, packaging and artwork was all handled by Rex and Andy. These five tracks were selected to showcase Random Battles' spastic, bombastic approach to video game arrangements. In the tradition of such live acts as Year 200x, Armcannon, This Place is Haunted, The One Ups, Powerglove, Entertainment System and Metroid Metal, we present Random Battles!

REVIEWS

A careless review by a dedicated game musician

This CD was a lot of fun to listen to and was a complete nostalgia trip. Having played Actraiser, Megaman, and Castlevania and being an avid (and picky) VGM music enthusiast I would have to say that their renditions of Fillmore and Dr. Wily's theme are the best I’ve heard. The other two tracks I was not intimately familiar with but appreciated as the style they use is clean, discernable, electric, and precise throughout the entire CD. The Belmont's Revenge Track was also a spectacular way to end the CD and left me wanting more. I look forward to their future works and hope you'll take the time to check out their CD and support them in their future endeavors!
