Album Notes

Nogabe Randriaharimalala was born in Madagascar and started to play various instruments from a young age. He moved with his family to China in the mid 70s, and became the drummer for the rock band “ Peking all Stars”. With his African music background, he started a Malagasy band called “Black Dragon” in Beijing in the 80s. In the 90s, he was the front man for the international world music band “NOGABE” based in Hong Kong and made 2 very promising albums, the first being the self titled “NOGABE” followed by “POLITICS, POWER AND GLORY”.
He then moved to London to record a new album “3rd WORLD GENTLEMAN” with London based African musicians. At the same time, he met a Malagasy musician Hugues Modeste Randriamahitasoa, also a singer, guitar player and songwriter composer. They created very melodic acoustic music together and called themselves “ZALAMA”. They received a lot of radio airtime and played in various festivals in London.
Nogabe returned to Beijing in 1998 and started a trio band called “NOGABE Randriaharimalala” with Eddy Mandriamampionina from Ma- dagascar and Dominic Bautista from the Philippines. He then made his 4th album “AFATRA”, which means “message” in Mala-gasy.
