"Glitter, Glam... Wham, Bam"
author: RubyxxCube Projects
That pretty much sums up this new album from Raquel's Boys. It seems like the band have now adjusted to their inner song - a rockin' new tempo and hype. With head bopping tunes like "The Glammer," which kicks off the album and underlines the new high-energy vocal romp that stands up to the best rock n' roll music.
The energy and vibe continues on throughout the album and finds the band cranking up the creativity with "The Kelly Affair," which with its lively tempo and stellar, melodic guitars; has a hook-laden chorus that will sound familiar to fans of classic rock acts.
The tempo slows as the band veers into almost-ballad territory with "California Loves You," a quiet little number that possesses a suitably pleasant melody. Lead vocalist Sean Hutton possesses a very nice voice, which he knows how to use, and lyrics to really get you juxtaposed with an insistent yet simple rhythm and harmonics.
“Holler It Out” and “Space Age Thing” offers plenty of high-energy and seriously wrought rock tunes. The volume gets kicked into high gear on the wild cut, "Non-Stop Action." Just like the title suggests, the band really cranked up their guitars and you have this track. Excellent modern garage-rock guitar heroics performance by Bill Rogers and Sean Hutton highlights the track perfectly. "Miss Solid Gold Dynamite" demonstrates the band's ability to knock out a fairly standard modern rock tune, with its melodic vocal hook. The album continues with a surprisingly adventurous mixture of angry guitar rock, especially on the tracks "What A Cool Way Of Life” and "Punk 45." Surging guitars are abruptly forced to a sudden change of tempo before the band kicks back in with a full-bore chorus.
The last track, "Mondo Superstar" re-itinerates the band's new and fresh music attitude and that they are here to work hard at it to win over their fan base. Don't listen to the album if you're searching for a message. Listen to the album because you want to forget your problems and have some “mondo fun”!

Hook Heaven

The Boys enter T-Rex, Redd Kross, Cheap Trick territory here, and results are electrifying. The Wilson homage "California Loves You" ought to be blasting from rooftops San Diego to Eureka right now, if not Tokyo and Stockholm. Still, that may be the softest thing here -- the overall spirit is springy, adrenal, fully caffienated. All hooks. Turn on, tune in, drop trou. This is your life on fun!

Raquel's Boys are back with a classic!

I can't hardly wait to cruise around with this cd. Mondo Fun celebrates the joy of rock n roll. Fuzzy guitars, tamborines accenting each beat, and vocals that have a soft feel, never screamed. Red Kross comes to mind, Pebbles 60's collections, Sweet, Mott The Hoople. Great harmonies abound, California Loves You is the hit that can't miss. I want this now! Yeah Yeah!
