Album Notes

Rastafunk lives up to his name every single time he plays. His music is relentlessly dancable as well as righteous, and it's impossible to resist the pull of both his band's music and his philosophy.

I always thought it'd be hard to capture the full booty-shaking sonic power of Rastafunk on disc, but "Universoul Water" comes damn close. With 18 songs on one CD and six on the other, the release is a blueprint for musical revolution that celebrates the richness of modern black culture by focusing on its roots.

Rastafunk and posse throw a conscious party of galactic dimensions on "Universoul Water," and everyone's invited.
The songs are chock-full of generous, deftly arranged dollops of George Clinton-esque funk, salty, irie reggae, sticky-sweet soul, hip-hop bounce, heart-piercing spoken word and even hard charging rock.

At its heart, Rastafunk's message is simple enough-"Love and honor one another for we shall study war no more." Rastfunk is preaching revolution, all right, and it's one we can all dance to and endorse.-Katie Shardl, Music Editor, Tallahassee Democrat

I usually don't write reviews, but... the Music on this cd in too good to be true. It has everything from funk to reggae to r & b to hip hop. The transition from one genre to the next is effortless. There are no words to really describe the mastery of this work. I'm impressed. Why isn't this on the radio? Especially the Black Woman track. My personal favorite is Trees and Beautiful things. I've been singing it for an hour straight. Another track that mesmerizes me is the first track Kilimanjaro. I've heard nothing like that. Ever. And the lyrics are thoughtful and uplifting. Overall a must for music lovers.

Who is this guy and where and when can I go see him live.

The music on this CD is everything I've been looking for in today's music but just can't find it anywhere, but finally I've found it all wrapped up in one spectacular CD. I can remember when Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire, Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley used to do musical albums that used to incorporate real music for real people, not music for catagories or commercialism. This Rastafunk CD has it all, it's like listening to a radio station where the DJ rufuses to stop playing really, really great songs. And not songs that sound a-like or songs that have any offensive themes, just beautiful sounds. The best thing about this CD is that it's almost 2 hours of constanly invigerating sounds, with singing that is remenisant of the ol' skool crooners and music that has had to blessed by Jimi, Bob and Marvin. Like most people I hate to be preached to, but the songs on this CD are so tension tight, that the messages become potent bullets of spiritual awareness that enter your psyche punctureing your spirit with love, life and the reality of peace within your soul. I could go on and on, so I'll end with this. Rastafunk's CD IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANY PERSON MISSING THE DAYS WHEN MUSIC WAS AN ADVENTURE THAT NOT ONLY INSPIRED YOUR BODY TO BOOGIE, BUT YOUR MIND, BODY AND SOUL WERE ALSO INVITED TO THE FLOOR TO LET LOOSE. Rastafunk has just become my personal favorite artist and "Universoul Water" is my favorite CD. I love every song.

This needs to be worldwide!

Damn, I've been sitting here like what the **** can I say about this CD?! I'm speechless! As an on-air personality, I take pride in bringing the best music to the people, and I often dig deep and search far and wide for those gems that get slept on by commercial radio (the most of which is bull****). This CD reaffirms my faith in the power of music, and proves that music can be funky and freaky, intellectual and approachable, sweet and raw, rasta and r&b all at the same time and so much, much more. The world needs this music, and YOU definitely should get it. Don't sleep...wake up and take a sip of Universoul Water. Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh, so refreshing! Peace...
