Album Notes

Agradecido is a beautiful mix of Brazilian, Venezuelan and Latin Jazz that showcases Ray's mandolin and guitar artistry with solid, intricate band rhythms. The music includes modern arrangements of Brazilian Chôro, Samba, Bossa, Basque, and Latin Jazz, featuring Ray's unique mandolin style. Mixed with these are songs of Venezuelan folklore arranged by Ray on classical guitar, joined by very special guest Venezuelan musicians. The music has a truly vibrant sound that has been captivating international audiences since it release.

David Ray on guitar and mandolin, with Tom Edwards, Steven Strauss, Jackeline Rago, Saul Sierra, Vince Littleton, Mike Sugar, Brian Rice, Ron Galen and Helen Holt.

"Ray skillfully blends Latin melodic structure with modern rhythmic influences, brilliantly blending in modern jazz drumming behind staccato, angular Brazilian-scented melodic lines. David Ray is an exciting, thoughtful player who brings great craft and insight to his music... He immediately steps into the foremost ranks of jazz and Latin-based mandolinists."

-- Mandolin Magazine

"David [has a] well-studied mastery of South American musical territory... a romantic's ear for melody... with aggressive and passionate picking."

This is a great CD! I received my copy from CDBaby a few days ago and I'm really enjoying it. Beautiful mandolin work, choice tunes and arrangements. I'm familiar with the choro pieces and I think these are great renditions that are at once respectful of the tradition yet cover new ground as well.
