Album Notes

Steve Raybine is a virtuoso vibraphonist, percussionist, composer/arranger, instructor, conductor, and clinician. He received degrees from the prestigious Eastman School of Music, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of Iowa. As the co-founder, musical director, and performer/composer of the critically-acclaimed progressive jazz ensemble Auracle, he toured the United States and Europe and recorded two albums (Glider and City Slickers) on Chrysalis Records.

As a Los Angeles studio musician in the mid-1970's, he played for episodic and commercial television soundtracks at MGM, Universal, and Paramount recording studios. His freelance performance credits include Ed Shaughnessy, Dizzy Gillespie, Rick Braun, Karrin Allyson, James Moody, Ndugu Chancler, Jack Jones, Michael Feinstein, Roger Williams, and local and regional orchestras.

Raybine's lectures and performances have been featured on Nebraska Public Radio and Nebraska Educational Television, and he is the 1997 recipient of the Outstanding Jazz Educator award in Nebraska from the National Band Association. Currently, he is president of the Nebraska Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society. Raybine is an artist and clinician with Ludwig/Musser Industries, endorses Mike Balter Mallets, and is an artist with the Nebraska Arts Council Nebraska Touring Program.

Steve Raybine and his combo perform his original contemporary jazz music incorporating urban funk, rhythm and blues, and Latin elements. His melodically-appealing music has been featured on numerous radio stations and is gaining more national acclaim. In addition, his music has been showcased on the nation's #1 smooth jazz online radio station, smoothjazz.com. His current CD release is entitled Steve Raybine: Balance Act.
