Album Notes

RAZOR POINT RECORDS...Think Bear Family, Think Sun, Think Tradition!

Started in a Western Wyoming honky tonk, Razor Point Record Company had one idea in mind...
Produce a sound that carries weight in today's Hot Rod & Rockabilly scene. Something the old timers would like & listen to while drinking a Bud an reminiscin'. Keeping it simple was the philosophy. Lo-Fi & Pure! Like it was recorded in Mama's barn. The Howlin' Sessions was the animal and in that, "Chopped & Channeled" from black vinyl came 50's Rock-A-Billy, Memphis Rhythm & Blues, Austin Outlaw Country, and Hillbilly from Bakersfield.
Gathering outfits from across the globe, the label took shape an has become a standard for the movement. It's about tradition, an the acts involved reflect and respect the established fidelity.

V/A - Razor Point Records: The Howlin' Sessions Vol. 1
author: James Burrow

One of the bands (Skinny Jim & The No. 9 Blacktops) are from Southern Illinois. They play in and around Carbondale all the time. Being on this CD was enough for me to want this. As for the other artists, never heard of them. That's not to say that this CD doesn't completely rock. Really liked Dawn Shipley & The Sharpshooters' "Empty Stretch of Highway". Can't wait for Vol. 2.
