Constructed using heavy tweaking of electronic sounds, guitar percussion, shortwave radio, and natural recordings. This album purposely fuses and jumps between IDM, krautrock, jazz, video game music, cut-ups, drums 'n' bass, dub, sci-fi themes, & no-wave

notes
This is the third full-length album from Rubber Band Banjo and is being released by MEME (Michigan Electronic Music Exchange) Records (www.memerecords.net), based in Lansing, Michigan. Two tracks ('Voltage Clamp' and 'Blue Orgone') appear on the MEME Records compilation 'Proletarian Science Fiction', being sold on CD Baby. Tracks from this album have somehow appeared on over 30 podcasts to date and played on several radio stations, including Don Campau's No Pigeonholes show in the San Francisco Bay Area and Australia's ISON Live Radio.
Loosely inspired by the mechanisms of evolutionary change in bacteria with high mutation rates, this album can be loved even if you are not a biology dork. Waveforms, like DNA sequences, can be mutated by substitutions, deletions, insertions, inversions, transpositions, etc. If waveforms are like organisms, then a song can be imagined as organisms existing individually or together at any given time. The evolution of each song may be likened to an ecosystem where organisms are mutating randomly and non-randomly in time and space.
Also being sold on CD Baby is the second Rubber Band Banjo album 'Gather Your Junk Together', a multi-genre jumping fiasco. The first album 'Hybrid Musical Organisms', bloop-bleepy Perrey and Kingsley meets Mr. Bungle Nintendo-esque music, is only sold at www.rubberbandbanjo.com. In August 2005, the Repeating Elements EP was released as a FREE mp3 download on www.rubberbandbanjo.com. This EP was constructed using an electronic drum set, lap steel percussion, and homemade instruments. This is a 19+ minute collage piece of interacting repeating elements where the tracks flow freely into one another. In the future, Rubber Band Banjo hopes to construct an album using sounds entirely from homemade instruments and other musical oddities.
Some of Rubber Band Banjo's influences include Amon Tobin, Squarepusher, Mr. Bungle, Secret Chiefs 3, Mike Patton, Estradasphere, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Jason Forrest (aka Donna Summer), End., Messer Chups, Perrey and Kingsley, Vicious Hairy Mary, Keuhkot, Alamaailman Vasarat, Steroid Maximus, Cardiacs, Bogus Blimp, Arcturus, Solefald, Single Unit, Xploding PlastiX, and Kaada.
