“Double Bill” combines the comedic talents of Matthew Lumpkin, an intelligent, southern family man who draws his standup humor from life and R. Bruce, an internationally acclaimed comedian, singer/songwriter.
It all started when Matthew began performing a comedy bit about his father’s camper and then R. Bruce wrote a song about the bit and they decided to record a combination of the song and the standup. They ended up recording live one night at Glenn Nicholl’s Fun Studio in Fredericksburg, VA and that night turned into this album. It is live and uncensored with some songs and material that may be on other albums by the artists and some that were possibly never intended to be recorded, ever. It was just a lot of fun.
Matthew is truly one of the fastest rising young headliners in the world of comedy. His common sense observational humor and his charismatic stage presence raises the bar far past the stereotypical “Southern” standup comedy. Audiences relate to Matthew’s comedy on a personal level. They feel as if they know him, as well as his friends and family whose stories become a part of his show. Matthew’s natural talent and well crafted material has brought him quickly to the attention of the entertainment world. He has been featured on Country Music Television and has delighted audiences in hundreds of venues across the country.
Touring across the U.S. to sold-out shows in the U.K. and Australia, R. Bruce combines his true talents for both stand-up comedy and music into a uniquely hilarious entertainment experience. Ian Gillan of Deep Purple said, “His performance is sensational! His observations on life are what we all understand to be true but... somehow we never quite looked at things that way before.” The Washington Post said, “Outrageous observational humor… catchy melodies and fluid finger picking.” And Inpress Magazine of Melbourne, Australia said, “U.S. comedian R. Bruce is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated performers at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival, bringing his quintessential R. Bruce mix of stand-up and musical humour to eager audiences.”
R Bruce and Matthew Lumpkin’s humour is fun and personal. They bring people together in laughter about the things we have in common, not the things that irritate and separate us. Their audiences have a wonderful time… and so do they!
