Richard Cannon, a local Michigan artist, recently released his debut CD album Wait for the Lord. "This CD is offered as a gift from a 'wounded healer' to other travelers on the road of healing and recovery. It is for those who need to know they are loved unconditionally, and those who long for God to reveal their deepest selves." These closing lines of Richard Cannon's personal testimony are tucked away in the jacket of his CD recently released this Christmas season. In his story Richard vulnerably reveals the difficult journey of spiritual and emotional healing that has led him to a place of realizing his deepest calling as one who sings, as one who longs to "offer his gifts back to God in song."
It is inspiring to find an artist who embodies both talent and spiritual depth; harmonic richness and tenderness of spirit. Perhaps the distinct quality of Richard's voice can be attributed to over thirty years of public ministry and service. Or perhaps it comes from the compassion that is carved out in one's heart when they are "acquainted with grief". Some would say that the special quality of his voice was with him since his first years as a choirboy, but whatever the source, you will surely find that something greater than Richard is imparted through his singing.
Back-dropped by his personal journey, one becomes aware that the songs of "longing, struggle, and praise" are sung from a seeking heart. In his music Richard welcomes us into a place where we can lovingly and honestly face God and ourselves as children in need of God's perfect grace and love.
