Album Notes

WHY POEMS CAN BE MORE LIKE PAINTINGS is a collaboration between the sound artist Denim on Denim and RealPoetik, the oldest and most active poetry magazine on the web. Six poems by Caroline Conway, Justin Marks, Malachi Black, & Chris Tonelli are translated into sound pieces and/or “songs” by Denim on Denim.

This EP establishes an incredibly large gamut of phrases, beats, patterns, melodies, and traditional soft focus in an effort to maximize the emotional impact of word and sound in a rigorous and ecstatic mixed media experiment.

From the haunting and elegant “To A Lady”, to the roaring “Last Years Model”, to the acoustic ballad “Elegy (For George Mazzoni)”, rarely has such a musical compendium sounded so urgent, complex, and startlingly original.
