Fresh new talent on the rise!
author: Christopher Runa
I first heard two of Ms. Blackman's songs on the Folk Alley website. I was instantly attracted to the melody's and lyrics. All the songs on this CD have a hook or an interesting approach to song writing that Ms. Blackman's music will be recognized by. This CD is one of the best production efforts I've heard coming out of a home studio. Compliments to her talented husband, contributing musicians and vocalists as well. Cheers!

This is great music from a very talented songwriter very much in line with the legendary Joni Michael. Lyrically very strong and poetic, a brilliant separation between verse and chorus. The interpretation is extremely mature and the piano is absolutely right on. Rebecca voice is very English and right now very much in fashion, and for this I thing this talented musician has a great future ahead, I only hope someone takes note and gives her the opportunity she so clearly deserves.

One of the few mesmorising albums you'll buy this year
author: Steven Craft
Everyone lives in a town and goes about their everyday life dreaming of a different world; yet very few people can take all these events and sculpt them into a piece of artwork that exposes forgotten about topics while still being able to put across the simple aspects of life that often seem to be lost in the murmur of the modern world.
There is a vibe generated by 'In My Defence' that provokes feelings that are sometimes hard to place, at times beautiful music is used to convey heartbreaking emotions leaving the listener unsure whether to smile or cry. The songs are laid in in such a manner that listening to the album from start to end is like embarking on a journey; an adventure. Each song goes through a specific story or idea but also comes through in a way that makes it feels like it has been written just for you. Rebecca manages to link the listeners personal experiences with her harmonies and lyrics, making it feel like you have known each other for a lifetime.
There are a lot of albums of great music out this year and sometimes it's hard to separate between them as they blur in to one and other, borrowing ideas and styles and making hybrids of each other. But with 'In My Defence' you will be assured to have a unique listening experience that should not be skipped over. I whole heartily give this album five stars and recommend anyone who wants to be touched and memorized for a lifetime to buy this album; just be prepared to be on tenterhooks waiting for Rebecca Blackman's next album to come out.
