Voila, Eureka, and Hallelujah!, the debut album,"Dragonfly" from new artist Rebecca Bogart is finally here!! It is filled with timeless anthems that sparkle like jewels in the sun and will comfort weary ears for generations to come. The vibe is Beatle-esque, the lyrics one of a kind comic-poetic, a veritable Lennon/Dylan/Mitchell casserole. Her vocal style has been compared to Sheryl Crow, Rickie-Lee Jones, Joni Mitchell as well.
The beat and rhythm guitar on these songs are extremely contagious, as on "Banana Nirvana","Gimmee","Elation","Ray of Sunshine", and "Tiger Mountain Doesn't Have Any Fleas." For those in a more quiet mood there is the gorgeous title track "Dragonfly", the intimate gentle "Teahouse", the joyouous "Dolphin Song", and the swirling fender rhodes induced "Let it In". Bogart's voice chirps delightedly along to the beat, revealing both sides of her soul in every bite, as she strums her guitar with passionate relentlessness.
For all those dear ones who just broke up with someone there is the CLASSIC "Salami Song", Bogart's endearing reply to Alanis Morrisette's "You Oughta Know", only more sweet and sarcastic. You can leave this one on your ex's answering machine and feel purged sufficiently, (especially if the machine is right next to their bed at 2 A.M.!) or just listen to it yourself for a good joke that never stops laughing. No more broken hearts after hearing this one, that's for sure!
Her Jethro Tull-like flute accompaniments burst in giving shivers of delight in unexpected moments. Her voice emotes in profuse longings. In short this is an album that will be stuck in your head, if not your cd player, forever, from an artist whose time has come and who hasn't even begun to pull out all her stops yet. Look Out!

Retro meets modern recording quality!

The retro sound, style and lyrics are brought forth cleanly and clearly through modern recording, without losing any of the warm feel. This is one of those CD's that you will just groove too. Try NOT to pay attention to the poetic lyrics - it's impossible. 4.5 stars out of five - round it up to 5!

Breezy, spirited songs performed with gentle conviction

It's hard not to compare a new artist with performers with whom you're familiar. But that needn't be a bad thing. Here I find hints of mid-70's Soft Rock as well as mid-90's female artist anthems. Sort of Orleans or Firefall meets a HAPPY Alanis Morrisette. Rebecca Bogart's CD is full of breezy, spirited songs performed with gentle conviction.
