Album Notes

REBECCA CHAILLOT

Rebecca CHAILLOT began performing in public at the early age of seven, when she played a piano concerto with orchestra.

She went on to graduate from Montpellier Conservatory, Geneva Conservatory and Bloomingtom University (Indiana Usa).

Encourage by her family sponsor in Geneva, Rebecca then spent three years perfecting her piano skills at Indiana University with Leonard Hockanson, György Sebök and Emile Naoumoff. She won second place in the concerto examination with Gershwin’s Concerto in F major and performed with the University orchestra under the direction of Imhre Pallo.

Rebecca Chaillot has performed in France, Switzerland, England, the Carribbean, Columbia, Venezuela, Canada and the United States, Madagascar, the Seychelles and Reunion Island as a soloist and in chamber groups ; she has been a guest performer at the Invalides and Salle Cortot in Paris, at the “Rencontres Musicales” of Ivry Gitlis Pont Saint Esprit, with Augustin Dumay at the Aix en Provence Festival, at Grignan Castle, at the Festival Bel-Air de la Ravoire, at the Lille Mozart Festival, at “Saou chante Mozart”, at Annecy Festival, at the Luxembourg National Theatre and at Rome’s “El parka de la Musica”.

At the invitation of France Musiques, Rebecca Chaillot has played in a number of concerts and television programmes for the French television channels “Arte”, “Mezzo”, “France 3” and “France 5”, alongside the Capucon brothers, Howard Butten, Francoise Fabian, Lambert Wilson, and Roseline Guinet, amongst others. She was also invited to play the Shumann concerto with the Philarmonic Orchestra of Heibi (China).

From 2001 to 2003 Rebecca Chaillot was artistic advisor to the Festival and Academy of Chamber Music at Suze la Rousse Chateau (in collaboration with Addim Drome) and Artistic Director of the Pro Musica association for its academy and its summer festival. For three consecutive years she was also one of the Artistic Directors of the Djerba Chamber Music Festival in Tunisia, alongside Patrice Fontanarosa, Jack Liebeck, Nemanja Radulovic, Tasso and Cecile Adamopoulos, Lyda Chen, Daniel Weissmann, Lise Berthaud, Roland Pidoux, Francois Salque, David Grimal, Amanda Favier and Jean Ferrandis.

During her career, Rebecca Chaillot has inspired a number of composers. She performed Emile Naoumoff’s sonata (composed in 1981) at the Lille Mozart Festival and he then delicated to her the Passacaglia, which went on to become the third movement in the same sonata (composed in 2002). The composer Jean-Guy Bailly dedicated his sonata for violin and piano to the duo of Sidonie Bougamont (violin) and Rebecca Chaillot. This was recorded during the opening concert in the “Music en Aubrac” festival on the 12th of July 2002.

In 2003, under the direction of Nikolaus Maria-Holz, Rebecca Chaillot created the play “Franz, Pianiste et Clown de Concert” with Madame Francoise from “Les Nouveaux Nez”. The show is based on the story of Franz Liszt’s Sonata in B minor, written in 1835 and first performed by Hanz Von Bulow in Weimar on the 20th of January 1857.
