"Way, way beyond an interesting voice that could clearly deliver hit records, Rebecca Martin exhibits the distinctive vocal style on which you build careers...big careers..."

Rebecca began her professional career with her group "Once Blue" (EMI Records) in 1994. Their self-titled debut was released in Japan, Canada and the United States. She toured the US with artists Lisa Loeb, Shawn Colvin, Squeeze, The October Project, Emmy Lou Harris, The Lilith Fair and many others while gaining loyal fans.

As a solo artist, she is the creator of "The Independence Project" (a platform for developing artists to tour in a focused, consistant manner) and produced her first solo recording "Thoroughfare" showcasing an impressive band: on Bass, Larry Grenadier, Guitarist Steve Cardenas and drummer Kenny Wollesen .

Her second recording "Middlehope" (Fresh Sound Records, Spain) was named one of the top ten records of the year in 2002 by THE NEW YORK TIMES and features Steve Cardenas, Bill McHenry (tenor sax), Larry Grenadier, Kurt Rosenwinkel (electric guitar) and Jorge Rossy (drums).

Rebecca signed a recording contract with the MAXJAZZ label in 2004 and released a record of 16 originals entitled 'People Behave Like Ballads' that has garnered rave reviews. (visit www.rebeccamartin.com for more on this).

A new record of originals is set to be recorded in the winter of 2006/2007

Along with her own recordings, her producer credits include Dorothy Scott's "Everywhere is Music" (featuring Brian Blade and Larry Grenadier") and a compilation recording: "Live at the Outlook: The Independence Project" that features new songs of Rebecca's, Frank Tedesso and Timothy Hill.

  • Outsanding Again
    author: Phillip Manske

I'm not a professional reviewer or even an amature musician, just a guy so I can't give a detailed review. However - I do candestinely promote Rebecca's work and the result is always the same. People turn their heads, look at the CD cover, ask who is singing and then ask for the name of the CD. Rebecca's work makes me very popular. Her music leaves you with the idea that you are watching sparrows fly but just not flying , rather they are flying in a tightly choreographed ballet thats not meant to look like an organized dance. Rebecca, please don't change one bit.

  • Warm and creative
    author: Greg Carrier

I was so glad to discover that Rebecca Martin has continued to record after Once Blue. This album is a worthy followup to that one. Her vocals are warm and intimate, and the songs are consistently fresh and creative. I'll be checking out her other recordings soon.

  • intimate, well crafted and very emotive
    author: Todd Adelman

I had the pleasure of purchasing and then listening to "Thoroughfare" and was exposed to an incrediby intimate, well crafted and very emotive album. A rarity in today's 3 minutes to furtune formula. From a fellow singer/songwriter -- Thanks!

  • More then anything else, Rebecca is music.
    author: Allen Foster, Songwriter Monthly

Thoroughfare Rebecca Martin - More than anything else, Rebecca is music. It is impossible to separate the artists from her work because they are one. This album is a rare creation that is, at once, fine craft and true art. There is something that goes far beyond what you actually hear which stirs the soul to feel with an undreamed of depth of passion. As Rebecca defines the songs, the music defines her. An amazing contribution that establishes Rebecca as one of the more important performers of our time.
