Where did it all begin? Well, it's a long hard road. Here's a brief Red Beat autobiography.
The first 12" Vinyl E.P. (MD 4.40) was recorded at Gooseberry Studios, Soho, London - Artwork by Mike Coles - Engineered by Mark Lusardi and released on Malicious Damage Records, Portland Road, Holland Park, London, W 11. The Original Red Beat line-up featuring 3 of The Jones Brothers, Martin, Roy and Paul. Reviewed as "Single of the Week" in Melody Maker.
Having played gigs at The Nags Head and Wycombe Town Hall with Joy Division. The band moved from High Wycombe to the Big City of London, settling in Notting Hill, and there was a change of line-up. Kevin Mann came in on Guitar and Chris Thompson got the job on Bass. The Legendary Red Beat B.B.C. Radio 1 John Peel Session was recorded in December 1980 at B.B.C. Radio One Portland Place Studios, London.
Red Beat played gigs all over London and the U.K. Venues like; The Marquee, The Lyceum, The Moonlight Club, The Venue Victoria, The I.C.A., Hammersmith Palace, The Acklam Hall, Reading University, Leeds University, Liverpool Erics, Brighton Polytechnic, Oxford Polytechnic, etc. Playing headline and support concerts with; Joy Division, Killing Joke, U2, Elder Brother Howard Jones, The Thompson Twins, The Cramps, Big Country, Captain Sensible, Hawkwind, etc. Influenced by Sex Pistols, X.T.C., Killing Joke, Gen X, Steely Dan, Little Feat, etc.
Two more singles were released on the Red Beat's own Manic Machine Products label with distro through Geoff Travis at Rough Trade Records, Ladbroke Grove, London.

Red Beat were breaking new ground at the cutting edge of the "second wave" of rock bands emerging out of West London in the early 1980's.
In 1982 the band went into IRS Studios, Kensington to record demo songs for IRS Records at the request of Miles Copeland (brother of Stewart, Manager of Sting, The Police, Jools Holland, Squeeze, The Bangles, The Alarm, Lords of the New Church etc.) The band recorded songs at his studio in Kensington Park Road, London. Red Beat experienced a metamorphosis around 1983/4 playing gigs as "Wheel of Change" and "Red White and Phoenix". A demo recording for Stiff Records was conducted in London the Year 1983.
In 1984 with manager Jim Aichroth "Red White and Phoenix" signed a deal with Ralph Seagull's Munich based "Zip" label part of Jupiter Records GMBH. Live Radio Interviews and Interviews with Bravo Magazine were conducted in Munich along with Photo Sessions and TV. The band video for the song "Power Reflex" was recorded for the "Formel Eins" TV Show at the Bavaria Film Studios in November 1984. Red White and Phoenix song "Power Reflex" was televised to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Northern Italy.
Guitar Player on the first Red Beat 12" Single and fellow sibling Martin Jones toured extensively in the USA and the rest of the world with Howard. Roy also toured extensively with Howard in the 80's. Paul gigged and recorded the drums with various bands in the 80's and 90's. Bands like General Seven, No Mean City, After Dark, Precious Few and Ysbryd with a live recording for BBC Radio Cymru and Headlining concerts performed at The Camden Palace, The Mean Fiddler and playing the Summer Ball Concert for SUN MICROSYSTEMS (Hello San Jose, C.A.).
In 1998 Paul "DRUMOLOGIST" Jones started teaching the drumset with his own teaching school DRUMOLOGY based in High Wycombe, Bucks.
In 2003 the Hamburg Based German Label "Select Cuts" released the Album "Wild Dub" with tracks from Red Beat (More or Less Cut and Cut Dub) Gen X, Killing Joke, P.I.L., The Slits, The Clash, Grace Jones, and S.L.F.
December 2004 was the birth of an artistic renaissance for Red Beat with the release of "The Missing Album".
All the singles, the BBC Radio One Peel Session and one previously unreleased song "Shadow Boxing" digitally remastered and now available as an 11 track audio CD.

Manic Machine Products, an independent record label, established in London, England, 1981, have released an Album of vintage music from thoroughbred band "Red Beat". The Album features digitally remastered singles released originally on vinyl by Killing Jokes label, Malicious Damage (MD 4.40) and on Red Beat's own Label Manic Machine Products,distributed through Rough Trade, London. The Album entitled "The Missing Album" also includes a BBC Radio 1 John Peel Session from 1980 which captures powerfully, the raw energy and mood of the indie scene in London at that time plus one previously unreleased track "Shadow Boxing" which features high quality production, engineering and musicianship. As well as a powerful tribal rock sound and awesome vocals, the band have a strong dub-reggae influence (with Mark Lusardi at the controls) which adds a unique dimension to songs like "More or Less Cut", "Cut Dub", "The Wheel", and the classic "Machines in Motion". The Missing Album comes with a 16 page full color booklet, a jewel case and is cellophane wrapped.
