About redcar….
REDCAR formed in 2005 and their lyrical yet gritty sound has taken their hometown of Los Angeles by storm ever since. Lead by musical temptress Heather Reid (lead vocals/guitar/Wurlitzer), REDCAR takes the best from indie rock’s current sound and adds a flavor all its own—melodic, passionate and just hard-hitting enough to make you want to come back for more.
REDCAR is:
HEATHER REID, formerly of The Murmurs and Gush, has a sensual and distinctive voice that is evocative of Bjork—and a vulnerability and passion that is impossible to ignore. Onstage, Reid’s energy is infectious, as she feeds off the band’s bashful swagger and her very personal lyrics. A force of nature, Heather brings an intensity and joy to her performances that fuels the band--and everyone else who listens.
JON SKIBIC (lead guitar) takes his inspiration from musicians such as James “Honeyman†Scott and Billy Zoom. You may recognize Jon from Greg Dulli’s “The Twilight Singers,†“The Gigolo Aunts†and the Juliana Hatfield band. A graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Jon has combined his classical training with his love of rock and roll to create the band’s unique sound.
RYAN MACMILLAN (drums) had been a member of “The Push Stars†(Capitol Records) and was busy working with artists such as The Dixie Chicks, Steve McDonald (Redd Kross) & Anna Waronker (That Dog) as well as Tracy Bonham to name a few. Ryan’s experience and talent rounds out the perfect trio.
The REDCAR Story:
Heather and Jon met 4 years ago in Los Angeles when Heather’s first band, The Murmurs, formed Gush, a band that was sadly run through the major label grinder within its first year. After Gush’s untimely demise, Heather and Jon began to collaborate, meeting a few times a week in Heather’s closet of a writing studio in the heart of Hollywood. Their claustrophobia and Heather’s calling to get back in front of live audiences lead the two to realize it was time to start a new band. Jon knew Ryan through the tight knight music scene in Boston, and it was Jon who convinced Ryan to take REDCAR for a spin. “He definitely needed an initial push†says Skibic “but, we grew on him.†After some concentrated studio time, the trio have been wowing Los Angeles audiences on a regular basis with their live performances.
REDCAR’s debut album, CAN’T BE STOPPED, was produced by Grammy award-winner Greg Collins (U2, Gwen Stefani), and will be released in March 2007 on Phyllis Records, based in their hometown neighborhood of Silver Lake, in Los Angeles, California. The band have also been selected as the March 2007 “Critical Eye†band by Yahoo! Music, which will feature a live performance by the band, showcasing material from their upcoming album, including the infectious title track, “Can’t Be Stopped,†which is the first single from the album.
The band takes its name from the small seaside town of Redcar in Northern England, the birthplace of Heather’s mother and home to the most delicious fish and chips and “mushy peas†in all of England.

GUSH version II
author: The Nat
After being completely devastated to hear that GUSH were no more - and holding on tight to my 8-track demo CD - I was completely bowled over that Heather has managed to capture the raw essense of GUSH and reharness it in her new project, Redcar. I think my favourite songs have to be Can't Be Stopped, Unfazed, and Pin Drop. I think I need to move from England to LA. This is where all the non-mainstream, fantastic music lives... obviously! :)
