On first listen, one could be forgiven for wondering - Is this actually a band from the small country of Swizerland? Hard to believe, as there is nothing small in REDEEM's music. Far from it. The single “Promises“ demands immediate attention, and features - besides REDEEM's lead singer & mastermind Stefano Paolucci - additional vocals by H-Blockx's Henning Wehland. „999“ delivers catchy hooks, kick-ass beats, powerful riffs, affecting emotions, and – last but not least – a unique voice by Stefano “Saint“ Paolucci. This is how Rockmusic in 2011 is supposed to be ...
(in case you were wondering why the UK’s own emergency services number provides the title of this album, producer Steve Power helpfully suggested bassplayer Pom Albisser call this number after getting lost in London to get more beer)
ABOUT THE ALBUM "999"
Eight years ago Stefano “Saint“ Paolucci founded REDEEM, initially just for fun and to have a beer with his friends. It actually became way more serious. REDEEM's debut album “Eleven“ thrilled both critics and listeners. The first video “Alive“ achieved heavy rotation in Swiss MTV/Viva, and climbed to number 56 in radio airplay charts. This was a significant “succès d'estime“. All of a suddden, REDEEM shared stages with bands such as 3 Doors Down, Die Toten Hosen, Daughtry or Gotthard at huge shows accross Europe. Now the new album “999“ and the single “Promises“ are ready for take off, with the UK set to be a major landing zone.
“Eleven“ was obviously heavily influenced by the US scene - bands such as 3 Doors Down, Nickelback, or Paolucci's favourites Pearl Jam left their marks. REDEEM supported 3 Doors Down in Germany, Swizerland and Holland, toured with Gotthard, Daughtry, Magnum, and opened for Die Toten Hosen.“We experienced a lot on these tours“ remembers singer, songwriter and mastermind Paolucci, and he proudly adds: “We had to satisfy the crowd just by our songs, and it worked.“ One listen to the tracks on offer here will leave you in no doubt as to why.
After a long run of shows, Stefano Paolucci, drummer Simon Steiner and bass player Pom Albisser took a well-earned rest, to work on new songs for “999“. The trio intentionally enlarged their musical spectrum. The outcome was obviously convincing, and REDEEM gathered quite an impressive group of internationally well known musicians, songwriters, producers, mixers and mastering engineers to contribute to “999“.
The single “Promises“ features besides Stefano Paolucci, H-Blockx' Henning Wehland on additional vocals. “Promises“ was written by Swedish top-songwriter Per Eklund, and mixed by British hitproducer Steve Power. “Broken“ was mixed by Rich Chycki, “Come Speak To Me“ was produced by Franz Plasa. The rest of the album was produced by Arne Neurand. “An extraordinary talented guy, who has worked with Guano Apes and Revolverheld. We picked him, because he was capable to implement our musical visions perfectly.“
“999“ sounds less “classic american style“, with a more wide and modern feel, and keyboards adding a new dimension. “999“ proudly refuses to hide REDEEM's typical rough edges, as it offers track after track a powerful synergy of catchy hooks, kick-ass beats, cutting riffs and affecting emotions. REDEEM remain true to themselves, staying hungry, but at the same time growing and becoming more self-reliant. “999“ is an impressive showcase of Rock in the year of 2011.
