For the past five years, singer-songwriter Luke Redfield has wandered North America and Europe as an inquisitive nomad, immersing himself in the diverse cultures and storied musical traditions of the northern hemisphere. Putting melody to the contrasting mountaintop highs and lonesome valley lows of his aimless drifting, Redfield points his listeners in the direction of the place where extreme opposites become one.
Celebrating his love for travel and reverence for literature, Redfield's lyrics come off like a reading of a Mark Twain or Saul Bellow novel, steeped in wisdom, wit, social commentary, and memoirs from life on the open road. His guitar strums a folksy accompaniment to a carefree delivery that wanders as much as he does, evoking a wide range of subtle influences, including Townes Van Zandt, Gillian Welch and Elvis Perkins.
Soon and very soon, music fans will embark on a journey of their own, down the mythic highways and mystic back roads of Redfield's haunting Americana. The new record, Ephemeral Eon, features acclaimed indie songstress, Haley Bonar, giving harmony to Luke's weathered cadence; multi-instrumentalist, Jeremy Ylvisaker (Andrew Bird), adding wispy textures of electric guitars, vibes, and vocals; and drummer, JT Bates (Greg Brown, The Pines), either pacing or racing each song to its climactic finish. The 50-minute folk odyssey was recorded in Austin, TX and Minneapolis, MN, by Tom Herbers (Low, The Jayhawks), Jason Orris (Golden Smog) and Eyedea (Rhymesayers).
