High-energy. Timeless. Emotional. Rock.
A group of individually unique musicians, Redfish come together with a fire and determination built on a collaborative passion for making powerful music.
Lead singer Edward Hagman's dynamic and soulful voice cuts through the mainstream with an originality and clarity you can feel. A love of performing since he was a young teen, coupled with his music study translates to an honest, yet striking stage presence.
Guitarist, and Redfish co-founder, Dean Gordon-Smith is a virtual bank of melodies and hooks. He exudes confidence with a classic, yet fresh vibe, honed from years touring all over Canada.
Drummer Steve Butler adds undeniable energy and punch to the band, and his gifted vocals compliment Ed's greatly. A seasoned road veteran and session player, Steve's talents push Redfish to their limits.
Bassist and co-founder Josh Evans lays down the foundation, while creatively adding melody with subtlety and taste. His music education, studio and touring experience, as well as his varied musical background from metal to R&B genres, contribute to his solid and electric stage personality.
With an infectious energy, evident when you see their live show or meet them in person, Redfish are coming...
The story so far...
2004 was THE year for Redfish. They released their CD and music video, got regional and national airplay for their hit single "Last Regrets" hitting number 1 several times, played main stages with the biggest bands of the year including Evanescence and Finger Eleven, won Rock Band of the Year in their region, and finally capped it all off surviving a point blank rifle shooting a week before Christmas.
Silvertonia was released in 2004, recorded at the legendary Warehouse and Factory Studios in Vancouver BC. "Last Regrets" aired on Much Music Indie Spotlight, and after phenomenal listener feedback, placed in medium rotation on Kelowna's Power 104 Radio. Every radio station was playing "Last Regrets" in the Okanagan region of BC, as well as the Kootenays, and Alberta. "Last Regrets" hit number 1 on the Sun FM Hot 9 @ 9 daily request show six times and stayed in the top 9 for months.
The summer brought the big stage to Redfish. Shows with Evanescence, Finger Eleven, Sloan, Seether, 54-40, The Trews and the Northern Pikes brought a new level to the bands' performance. The summer ended with Redfish winning "Rock Band of the Year" at the 2004 Scorpion Music Awards in Kelowna, BC.
Extensive touring of western Canada led Redfish to the fate contemplating incident in Fairmont Hot Springs, BC. A hotel clerk pulled a loaded 30-06 hunting rifle on the band as they were about to leave the lobby and head to the venue. She pointed the firearm at each member while screaming in an enraged state. She finally turned the weapon on bassist Josh Evans as he stepped down into the lobby, and open fired. The blast made a sizeable hole, inches from where Josh had been standing.
After police handled the situation, Redfish, though late, hit the stage and played for the fans that anxiously waited through their ordeal. You never know when you're going to go, but Redfish know where they are going to go, and it always includes music-The show must go on.
