Redhill Rats was formed, many years ago, as a traditional Irish music band. But, let\'s face it, Irish music can be a bit dull and repetitive at times. And many of those beloved ballads that lager-drinking yobs howl out in Irish bars all over the world are so sappy they give you instant diabetes if you are forced to listen to them.
That\'s how we feel, although we wouldn\'t stand on Paddy Moloney\'s coffee table and shout it out loud.
So we let other influences creep in.
When the musical form was liberated from excessive Irishness, original material began to emerge. Our years in Paddyland have left their mark in the new songs, of course, but so have other musical styles like British folk, Americana, Bluegrass and various forms of pop and rock.
We suppose we can call this folk rock, as there are quite a few acoustic instruments involved.
\"But do you have anything to say?\" asks the voice from the past.
Damn right we do, and you better start listening. We Finns are known to stay silent until we have something to say that Needs To Be Said Right Now.
So there. No excuses. Fire up.
