In Native American Music tradition, music like art and dance tells a story. These songs reflect our human experience and express the memories, emotions and prayers of life.
Two years in the making, Soul Blessings is a rich mix of Native American, Afro-Cuban and original music which goes direct to the heart.
1. Traveling Home 6:46 The pure, innocent and beautiful child within us is always there to welcome us home. 2. Soul Blessings 6:29 Our life is a beautiful tapestry of the many blessings carefully woven together for us by the Master Weaver of life. 3. Eagle's Dance 5:22 For many Native Americans, the Eagle represents a messenger that travels between the spiritual and earthly realms. His ability to soar into the Heavens provides us with a way for our prayers to be carried to the Spirit. 4. Daydreams 11:54 Our visions and dreams are valuable ways to access wisdom from the past, present and future to help us live today. When this wisdom from the subconscious merges with our conscious thought, our daydreams can become reality. 5. Boy Dancer 6:58 If we continue to practice the playfulness and laughter of childhood, we remain young at heart. 6. Full Moon Boogie 7:48 When we combine the power of the drum, the grounding of Mother Earth and the strength of the full moon, we have a "Full Moon Boogie." 7. Yei-Shango 8:24 In the Dine culture, "Yei" represents the "Holy People" who prescribe powerful designs and symbols used for healing ceremonies. In the Afro-Cuban drum tradition, "Shango" is one of their "Holy People" connected to the drum which, like thunder, is the voice of God heard and felt deeply in our hearts.
Tony Redhouse, a member of the Navajo Nation of Arizona, is an accomplished artist, dancer, musician and recording artist. For over 30 years Tony has performed for corporations, resorts, art festivals, schools, television and numerous public functions. Mr. Redhouse's dance performances, which include the Hoop dance, Eagle dance, Traditional War and various social dances, provide cultural awareness and fast-paced entertainment to audiences of all ages. In addition to dancing, Tony also offers Traditional Native American flute-playing and a unique style of story-telling complete with musical sound effects. He is also a member of the Arizona Commission for the Arts Residency Roster, Kennedy Center, Washington, DC approved roster artists. Tony has also held memberships in other arts and professional associations such as the the Phoenix Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Arizona Speakers Bureau.
Today, Tony Redhouse acts as not only a performer, but as a Native American traditional consultant, teaching seminars in Native American culture, spirituality and arts/crafts to children and adults. Tony has written and developed a culturally based curriculum for all ages that incorporates Native spirituality as a solution to drug, alcohol and gang related issues, using storytelling and dance. This format parlayed into professional speaking, where Tony now uses traditional and contemporary Native themes along with humor to motivate and inspire corporate audiences in a whole new way.
Over the years, Tony has acted as Cultural Consultant for Title IV Indian Education, and held position of Art Therapist/Director at Indian Rehabilitation Inc., using Native Art and spirituality in a residential treatment program for substance abuse. He also served as Traditional Practitioner and Coordinator for the Native American Community Health Center's HIV/Aids program, Behavioral Health Departments, and Red Road Youth where he facilitated talking circles and Native American traditional sessions.
Tony Redhouse, (Navajo) is an accomplished World-Beat percussionist. Raised as a Hoop Dancer, the constant "heartative American drum became a reference point for Tony's interest and development of diverse ethnicbeat" of the N rhythms. During Tony's youth, he was exposed to Afro-Cuban, Latin Rock and urban soul style drumming in the San Francisco Bay area, and continued to pursue other African based rhythms which he later fused with Jazz.
Today, Tony combines his ethnic style percussion with Native American flutists and musicians during concerts and in the recording studio, to create a colorful blend of musical textures. The power of the drum to unite all people is expressed by Tony as he weaves the sounds of indigenous instruments & rhythms to his contemporary style of drumming. During his solo performances, Tony plays Native Flute and percussion instruments from around the world. As a musician, dancer and artist, Tony promotes the arts as a vehicle to bring the message of balance & harmony.
He has recorded with his siblings, "The Redhouse Family Jazz Ensemble", on the Canyon Records label CD titled "Urban Indian". Tony can also be heard on other CD's with Native artists Darryl Tonemah on the "Ghosts of St. Augustine", with Robert Tree Cody on "Maze". and "Native Flamenco", the latter which fuses fiery Latin percussion with traditional flamenco guitar and Native American flute. Tony is currently working on several solo CD projects, and plays locally as a guest percussionist with such groups as Maruma (Rock) and The CPR Orchestra, a high energy Latin/Salsa group.
