Album Notes

Red Rooster is a band intent on playing music that has some soul and muscle to it that ain't just another pop burst.

Our music has been called, "gutsy and intuitive," "fuckin' good" and "sad." As one prominent industry insider wrote: "The music draws from its American roots of blues, folk, and blue grass staying true to its history while adding a modern edge."

Rooster was formed in the fall of 1998 in New York City. Since then they have been playing some of New York's best known and historic venues, including the Elbow Room, The Back Fence, Fez, ReBar, Shine, Tonic, Hank's Saloon, the C-Note, The Parkside Lounge, Bagatelle, The Frying Pan, McGee's and Life as well as Connecticut College and various private engagements. They bring a unique blend of acoustic folk and blues to the stage that can have a person on their feet and hoppin' around one minute and sitting back in a contemplative mood the next. Their music tells stories that grow out of the rich historical and cultural landscape that is America; from Appalachia to the Delta to destinations unknown. One might say that their music falls under the category, "Americana." The band consists of Nat Zilkha (lead guitar and Dobro), Jay Erickson(vocals, harmonica and guitar), Ted Shergalis (Fiddle), Jamie Forrest (Bass & Mandolin), and Miles Crawford(drums and percussion). As their following continues to grow, so does their repertoire of originals, covers and traditionals into musical sets that one will not soon forget.

Great Songs

I like the mix of blues and folk in the songs. I thought the songs were going to be more full, but I really enjoy how they are stipped down and acoustic. Really great music to listen to. I picked up Dose recently and look forward to listening.
