The late great RED SMILEY is well known in the Bluegrass field for the contributions from the Don Reno & Red Smiley fame. This recording was made in 1968 after Red had retired from touring. It is NOT Bluegrass! Instead, it is strickly COUNTRY with some of Nashville`s top session players of that time including Jeff Newman/Pedal Steel, D.J. Fontana/Drums ( played for Elvis ) and Wade Phillips/Electric Lead Guitar.

All of the songs here had never been recorded and the album was never released. Only a 45rpm of "Best Female Actress of the Year". Then later Charlie Moore recorded a bluegrass version of the song. None of the the others have ever been recorded or even heard by anyone else. So, in 2005 Producer/Promoter Buddy Hogan went to Waynesboro, VA to meet with John Major. And this is what wound up from that meeting.

I grew up with Reno and Smiley.....Top of the morning .I love Bluegrass,but this music was a shock to hear his voice in an entirely different sound.It was great.He had a beautiful voice.

Red is my Dad's first cousin and although I never met him
I did see the Reno and Smiley feature at the Country Music Hall of Fame and have listened to their music for years.
This CD is wonderful...never knew he was as great singing country as bluegrass.  BUY THIS......IT'S TERRIFIC.

Like a ghost from country's past!!

This has to be the musical surprise of the year!  Red Smiley proved that he had the chops to sing coutry music with best of them. This CD plays like a history lesson of the way that country mucis was and could be again. The sound quality is unreal.... plays like it could of been recorded yesterday.   Thank to all involved with this project it is like a ghost from county music's past!
