Red Team is a group of musicians who lead worship at Ashland's First United Methodist Church with their blend of rootsy acoustic rock and rich harmonies. Trying to avoid the divisive categories of "contemporary" or "traditional" worship, Red Team draws its inspiration and harmonies from the old American tradition of Shape Note singing--four of the cuts on the album import the tunes and three-part harmonies from "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion" printed in 1835. This singing from the great awakenings somehow blends with Brit rock piano and bluegrass fiddle on Sunday mornings in Ashland.
Red Team plays music for congregations to sing: this is Church Music.
This album will be of particular interest to ministers, worship leaders, church musicians (and anyone else) who wish to put the worship wars behind them and get on with the business of everyone singing God’s praises in the same place at the same time.
Red team is: Jen Arbaugh (vocals), Adam Baker (vocals), Mary Kettering (violin), Libby Slade (vocals, piano, accordion), Pete Slade (vocals, guitar), Lee Wetherbee (guitar), Drew Tucker (drums).
