Album Notes

The original RED VAN GO started in 1990 as an eclectic acoustic trio: Larry Weber (guitar), Liza Carbe (bass/vocals) and Nicole Falzone (drums/vocals). Their original compositions led the way to explosive three-way exploratory improvisations. They released one self-titled CD on Vital Voice Records in 1991. The group toured the western US and Japan.

RED VAN GO started in Playa del Rey, CA as a collaboration between longtime friends. Larry and Liza had known each other from their days in the music program at College of the Redwoods. Nicole and Liza had played in many Los Angeles area bands together. The group rehearsed and recorded twice a week for a year leading up to their LA debut. Larry's stellar fretboard work (for which he had long been recognized in the LA and Northern California guitar communities) combined with Nicole's explosive pocket drumming and Liza's lyrical bass playing provided an underpinning for great harmonies and lyrics that probed both the heart as well as social conditions. The trio generated a warm and enormous sound that was unique in its time.

The group disbanded three years later, though various groupings would continue to perform up through present-day, most notably Nicole Falzone's contributions to Liza Carbe's international world music group INCENDIO. And the three remain friends, recently reviewing a backlog of unreleased RED VAN GO material that might see the light of day soon . . .
