My goal in creating this CD is to make an initial contribution to that vast cultural work in progress known as "Americana." It was recorded live at Experimental Sound Studio in Chicago Illinois and features acoustic guitar and vocals. The material consists of original songs and cover versions of some classic folk tunes.
My influences include Elizabeth Cotten, Mississippi John Hurt, and the late Dave "Snaker" Ray. These are artists whose guitar work created a setting where a song could live and breathe, where a story could be told, where a character could come to life. I can only hope that my work puts me on the path of those trailblazers who have gone before me.
A lifelong Chicago area resident, I have done ensemble work with local acts such as Mojophonix, the Reedy Brothers, and Kathryn Gauthier, who also is featured on CDBaby. This is my first solo CD.
