Coming or Going?, the new breakthrough album from Virginia's hottest act, REGAN.
Produced by Regan, Wayne Pooley (Bruce Hornsby) & Doug Derryberry (Bruce Hornsby / Blue Dogs / John Mayer / Vertical Horizon / Dave Matthews Band), coupled with Stewart Myers' (Wishlist Recording) smart engineering skills, and all the incredibly talented musicians performing at their best, surely make this recording one of a kind.
Recorded in a private house overlooking the James River in Richmond, VA, Coming Or Going? creates a downright feel-good vibe with smart vocals, catchy melodies, and contains what are undoubtedly Regan's strongest songs to date.
Features back up band Agents of Good Roots (formerly with RCA). Special guest appearances by Butch Taylor (Dave Matthews Band touring keyboardist), Doug Derryberry (Bruce Hornsby Band guitarist), strings by Chris Sexton (Nothin Fancy), Daniel Clarke (keyboardist for John D'Earth, Modern Groove Syndicate, & Devil's Workshop), & more...

Such a great album...Regan has really grown as a song writer. I remember the days back in Williamsburg, VA, at JM Randalls when Regan would jam with Agents...great times, amazing music. Looking forward to Regans 3rd album!

New CD showcases Regan's talent as a singer, songwriter, and producer.
author: Don Semmens
No one should read this as an objective review of Regan's new CD. I mean, I'm on record saying I'd pay to hear the immensely talented singer/songwriter sing out of the phone book (as long as she starts at the letter "S"). So obviously I'm biased.
But, just because I'm biased doesn't mean I'm wrong.
"Coming Or Going," the long-awaited follow-up to "First Breath," showcases Regan's talent as a singer, songwriter, and producer. Her experimentation with sounds and effects on "First Breath" have been finely honed on the new CD. The layers of instruments and backing vocals never overwhelm the primary attraction of this CD -- her well crafted songs and her fabulous voice.
At just under 44 minutes, "Coming Or Going" is about 3 songs too short. I'm a firm believe in using all of the medium, and while I'm not an absolutist about it, this CD has less music than some vinyl releases from 30 years ago. There are plenty of her other songs that could be on this CD. "Return to the Womb" would have been a welcome addition. Or a re-recorded version of "Talk To Me" which should not be relegated to a compilation CD. Or, a song or two with just Regan and her guitar like "All Coming Down" or "Just Let Me Go."
But, the songs that make up the CD are among Regan's best, including older songs such as "I Will Do," and "Molly," and newer ones like "Dying A Fool," "Would You," and "Carry On." "Carry On" is probably one of the most beautiful songs I've heard.
Backing up Regan on these songs are many talented musicians including members of the band Agents of Good Roots. But it takes a producer's ear to make the music speak and Regan definitely has that ear.
Musically, Regan's songs borrow from various styles including rock, jazz, groove, pop & ballads. But, the songs also evoke a range of emotions from happiness to intense longing to firm resolve. Some of these musical feelings are brought out by only a violin or flute. Others by her sometimes quiet, sometimes soaring voice. And, the basic melodies just beg to be listened to, they are so intelligent.
Lyrically, the songs echo the duality of the CD title with themes of moving on and staying put or the give and take of relationships.
What is also evident in listening to the songs is the energy felt at her live performances. The only exception to this is the song "Nickel," a song about an artist questioning choices made. The song in a live setting always has a reflective quality, but on the CD it has a much
brighter feel and is a bit too fast for my tastes.
No one should be surprised at the success Regan will achieve with this release. "Coming or Going" is a meticulous and professional work of art and is as fresh and new today as it was when I first listened to it.

I became interested in this artist b/c of her name. Very, very cool name if I do say so myself. I have listened to this cd once through (I have not had it more than a couple of days) and I really like it. I can vision listening to this cd with a glass of wine in hand. It will be a great chillin' cd! Cheers!
