Regina is...the songs of Dinah Washington was musically produced by the founder, arranger major piano man, Mr. Sanford Moore of the extraordinary MOORE by FOUR. The cd features vocalists, T. Mychael Rambo (jazz cd SIMPLY) and jazz phenom Dennis Spears. On bass is Gordon Johnson, Sax and flute is Dave Karr who called Ms Williams before the recording date to confirm. He had made a comittment and if he wasn't going to be available for Ms Aretha Franklin he wanted to call and let her know to book with another sax player. He was able to do both gigs. Drummer Steve Jennings also played with Ms Williams for the fabulous runs of Dinah Was at both Penumbra and the Ordway.

i play this everywhere from jogging, to driving, to parties at my home. this is a breathtaking CD full of vocal and musical fireworks, surprises, and subtleties...i love it. songs like "Showtime" and "What a Difference a Day Made" seem to reveal more of themselves each time i listen: beautifully inexhaustible. there's a marriage of power and playfulness here that i think must bring joy even to (if not especially to) the most devoted dinah washington fan. this cd may send you (like me) out looking for who dinah was only to find yourself back listening to Regina Is once again. i'm so grateful to have stumbled across this remarkable recording. yes!
