The Brisbane based musician/producer Luke Reichelt makes songs with lyrical wit and melodic intensity. His debut solo album 'Snakes & No Ladders' (2008) is set for reprint as he gigs around the place and prepares for a new album in 2009. Often heard on community Brisbane radio 4ZZZ 102.1 FM, Luke can also be found performing at Ric's Bar and other Brisbane venues.
The accordion and the acoustic guitar have become staple instruments to Luke's sound as well as his distinct singing. His collaborative work with many other musicians has led to some interesting results.
"I played a lot of the parts on the Snakes & No Ladders album but I also got a lot of guests in," Luke describes the album making process, "I love to work with all different kinds of musicians to see what we can come up with. There are members of A Secret Death, Jane VS World and Wolfmother on my CD!"
Having produced many bands (The OK Cowboys, Severed Link, Operator Please, The Combovers, Collateral Damage, The Pallbearers, The Matador and Go!Go!Go!Go! to name a few) and worked with different producers (Mass Giorgini of Screeching Weasel and Bjanne Ohlinn of The Divynils) Luke had no trouble putting his own album together.
"Yeah I had the production experience to make my own CD but the problem with playing and producing is you only have yourself to bounce ideas off and it can get a little crazy. Next time I'll get another producer in to work with."
An ever evolving musical endeavour Reichelt's work continues to strike an original mark onto the face of Brisbane's music scene (like a cigarette lighter leaving a smiley on it's owners skin).
