Album Notes

First off, check out the new Reid Paley Trio album Approximate Hellhound. Ahem. Lucky's Tune (the album) is the long-awaited solo debut of internationally obscure Brooklyn based singer/songwriter and professional wise guy Reid Paley. Critically acclaimed and celebrated by all, Paley is known as much for his killer live sets as his booze & damnation songwriting and a big resounding voice that's all his own. This unique American rock belter has been all over the country (and the UK and Europe), both as A Man & His Guitar, and with his white-hot trio. Produced by Mythic Rock Deity and Pixies mastermind Frank Black a.k.a. Black Francis. Reid Paley is also the co-writer with Frank Black of a bunch of songs. The ones that appear on Mr. Black's albums are "Don't Get Me Wrong" [on Christmass], "I'm Not Dead (I'm In Pittsburgh)", "Golden Shore", "Dog Sleep", "Down To You" [on Fast Man Raider Man], and "Another Velvet Nightmare" [on Honeycomb]. Oh yeah. Before all this there was a Sub Pop single, a bunch of tapes, and a dark and checkered past squandered on rock. Allow us to put it all into some sort of perspective with the final verse from If I Knew Then (What I Know Now) : Sometimes I drink it in And sometimes I just drink But when I take my final bow I could have done it better But I done the best I could I would have done it anyhow If I knew then what I know now So. There you go. Raise a glass. Play it loud. Weed out questionable friends. Alarm and confuse nosey neighbors and unsuspecting household pets. You only live once. Or something. ------------------------------------------------ "A voice to turn good girls bad...Maybe crazy but damn exciting" --The Village Voice "A proudly weird talent with a nervy raw appeal." --Time Out New York "Straightforward, sarcastic, funny and gifted at putting a song together." --New York Press "Put simply, the Reid Paley Trio knows how to get down. He's got mischief in his eye, Elvis in his joints, and booze everywhere else." --NYRock "Reduce-you-to-tears razor wit...Reid Paley ought to be a household name." --Pittsburgh City Paper "One of the East Coast's best-kept secrets, his wryly misanthropic schtick is all his own. Live, he is the Bill Hicks of the blues. You need to see him." --What's On In London "More messy jazz from a drunken genius." --City Life, Manchester UK "Best Of Manhattan" --New York Press "Four Stars" for Revival (highest rating) --German Rolling Stone "For all his simplicity, Reid is like nobody else." --Seattle Weekly "For fans of churlish honesty and unaffected one-man shows, REVIVAL is a nonstop riot." --San Francisco Weekly "An unholy howl of a voice." --CMJ "A soot-black sense of humor as biting as an underfed Rottweiler." --Cleveland Free Times "Actually, it's more than one date with this vampiric Brooklyn songwriter - it's four. And lucky us. Paley lives on the darker side of Saturday night, his witty ballads backed by a Czechoslovakian upright bass, a trap kit, and a voice that sounds like a bag of gravel in a blender. Just remember - his drawl is worse than his bite..." --City Life, Manchester UK "Classic, damaged to perfection...His music carves it's initials into your heart with a rusty scaffolding bolt." --MurphGuide "Though records like Revival drip with talent, sweat and humor, live is the way to experience Paley." --The Village Voice "As Baudelaire was the spleen of Paris, Reid Paley is the spleen of New York... How else could he write such messianic blues, such prophetic rock 'n' roll?" --442éme Rue, Paris "You can love this album, or you can fear it!" --Westzeit Magazine, Germany "Unnerving but all the more impressive for it...Let the good (and bad) times roll." --ManchesterMusic "Another impossibly excellent piece of work flying low, under the radar." --Ink 19 "I sing along with St. Reid as if purity itself hung in t

REVIEWS

This is a truly great CD
author: Denise
This is a fantastic cd. So much of what is out there is trite and overdone. This is an amazing cd from one of the most original artists around. If you've ever felt the pain of a break up or unrequited love, listening to this cd makes you feel almost vindicated. I can't say enough good things.
