In the pantheon of great rock and roll bands The Remnants share one thing – the love of classic roots music. Lead singer/songwriter Tom Boynton and drummer Tom Fridrich have spent most of the past 15 years – the last 10 with The Remnants - shaping their music to no particular mold. From the beginning they have eschewed the “cover band” scene that is a frequent staple of the East Coast bars and venues where they cut their teeth and honed their songwriting skills. Whether it’s been influenced by The Stones, Beatles, The King, The Boss or the Man In Black makes no difference as Mr. Boynton continues to imbue his songwriting with country twang and wit and a deference for pop hooks and Keith Richards style guitar. Their live shows work sweat glands overtime and audiences into frenzied dance. In 1996 & 1997 their first CD “Parts” was played everyday for six months on legendary DJ John Hall’s afternoon drive time show on AAA radio WRNR-FM in their hometown of Annapolis, Maryland (and garnered a critical “top ten” nod from the Washington Post). He maintained everyone needed a daily dose of “real rock-n-roll”. Their second CD “Double Wide” (1998) began a string of opening dates with the likes of Fastball, The Blazers, Pete Droge, NRBQ, The Old 97’s, Southern Culture On The Skids and Buddy & Julie Miller and was supported by strong radio support for both “Parts” and “Double Wide” on 65+ AAA and college radio stations around the eastern half of the US. By the time they released their third CD, “Songs For Sale”, they had established contacts with music row publishers with their frequent trips to Nashville which helped bend their songwriting even more towards the “alt-country” and “hard” country market. With bands like The Supersuckers and Drive By Truckers reviving the southern country rock sound fashioned by earlier heroes, Lynyrd Skynard, The Remnants once again find themselves squarely in the mix of the independent music scene. Their long awaited fourth release, due in early 2006 on the independent label, Slow Summer Records, finds The Remnants restating what they’ve always known about their mix of blues, country, rock, punk, soul and twang - “it’s only rock and roll”.
