Hailing from L.A.
author: Surnuaed-estonian Metalzine By Jants
Resistant are hailing from L.A. and "Ancient Future" is their first full length record. This is also the first release by Seventh Generation Records. It's impossible to classify "Ancient Future" under any existing metal style or even to give a proper name for what they are playing, because Resistant mix elements from hardcore-, trash- and nu-metal, spiritual native Indians music + tons of some weird stuff. Some sections of "Ancient Future" remind me of "Chaos AD" and "Roots" time Sepultura and some riffs can boast with some similarity to new Slayer. So it's not very surprising to find the second track to be "Refuse/Resist"… But that's where the similarities end, because all those different styles and ideas are mixed in each and every song! For example, Resistant combine old-school heavy metal solos, nu-metal rhythms and Indian singing in one song! As for that native and ritual part, a good example is the title song, "Ancient Future". I really love that flute part in the middle of the song! It's just so melancholic and beautiful. One more thing that can't be missed is that they like singing in chorus a lot. And all that mumbo-jumbo is suddenly cut through like butter with a blunt knife by the 7th song "Man Against Machine". Although it starts out as a humble lullaby, it turns into total destruction! Fast double drumming bombardment and battling guitars strike you like a thunderbolt from a clear sky! If all the record would have been in the vein of that song, we would have an ass kicking death metal band here. "Man Against Machine" is definitely my most favorite song from this record! But what's truly amazing about that strange record is how well Resistant puts all this crazy stuff together, so it doesn't sound like total chaos. And they are very skilful players too, especially I like what the drummer does. So, if you are looking for something totally unique and you are ready to change your opinion about heavy music in general, Resistant's "Ancient Future" is made for you!

ANCIENT FUTURE by RESISTANT (Seventh Generation Records)
author: Highwire Daze Magazine
Based out of Los Angeles, Resistant take various musical influences and come up with compelling tunes that should excite music fans everywhere. Mixing a hardcore punk sound with sonic nu-metal influences, there is a DIY feel to the project that makes it exhilarating to hear. The lyrics contained on Ancient Future will inspire thought, while the music will provoke mosh pits wherever they go. "Strike," "Resist/Refuse" and "Boss" are highlights featured on Ancient Future. Resistant is one of the most promising acts to come out of LA in along while, and those who like Rage Against the Machine, Earth Crisis and more extreme forms of metal will have a brand new band to rally around. Ancient Future is a passionate work from musicians who want to both challenge and entertain the masses.

RESISTANT "Ancient Future" - Seventh Generation Records
author: L.a. Weekly - Greg Burk
Good art is often political. A John Coltrane solo or a Jackson Pollock painting makes more difference than a Jesse Jackson speech (and slogans make lousy music and blockheaded posters), because art can dodge the deceit and cliché of words to strike in subtle ways. This Resistant CD has both art and slogans. They never work together, but the art succeeds separately. Resistant is one L.A. modern-metal band that can splash considerable funk onto its groove, and sounds best when it does. Band members “Vic, Ralph, Anthony and Katina” spill over with creative ideas, like the heavy, howling bridge of “Ball and Chain,” the ghostly, moaning intro to “Feathered Serpent,” and the way Native American chants and wonky Clavinet meld with metal guitar riffs on “Ancient Future.” Dig the muscular studio sound (recorded by hard-rock vet Schneebi and mastered by Mark Wheaton) and Anthony E.’s striking mythical-symbolic cover. There’s also much that’s ordinary. The croaky rant-raps make the whole thing seem one-dimensional (when in fact it’s not). Too much double kick drum robs the sound of dynamics. Worst are the lyrics. “The people united will never be defeated.” “Politicians are for sale.” “Leeches sucking blood for business.” But: “We don’t have to tell you the truth/you already know so well.” That’s right. (Greg Burk)
