Melodic, sometimes glitchy, sometimes breakbeat-style electronica/IDM/otherwise unclassifiable electronic listening music, introspective and atmospheric harmonies accompanied by a mish-mash of subtle and occasionally pummeling rhythmic sounds/structures. Best experienced with headphones.
Retic is Douglas Teike, originally from Indianapolis and currently residing in Seattle.
What is it about a piece of music that causes you to nod your head uncontrollably, induces euphoria, and can even make you see the world through rose-colored glasses? This artist hopes to translate these type of experiences to every listener. Music that recalls a sense of playfulness and a childlike naivete, often veering into dark and mysterious places, and always attempting to clear new territory and find an original voice in today’s music landscape.
A genre clash if you will: experimental, ambient, hip-hop, impressionist, romantic, pointillist, post-classical, post-rock, but most certainly electronic at its core, and always keeping harmony and juxtaposition as a focal point and a building block. Sometimes pristine, often raw, broken, and decaying...
This is a CDR release with full disc and cover artwork, ideally suited for headphone listening. Produced by Douglas Teike and mastered by Twerk (Audible Oddities) in San Francisco. Each jewel case assembly and all the original case and full-disc artwork is printed and lovingly assembled by the artist.
What others have had to say about RETIC:
(About SDT): \"it\'s a gorgeous album in the vein of Boards of Canada, Tycho, and Nautilis. Unique in its own right and crafted with skill, you\'re really going to enjoy this one.\" - Shawn Hatfield/Twerk (www.audibleoddities.com)
\"Some albums just feel warm, comforting, like a winter afternoon under a familiar blanket with loved ones. The early Boards of Canada records achieve this feeling (seemingly) effortlessly. Retic aims at the same mark, and hits more than he misses on this tasty platter. Saturn\'s focus is on the details, the tricky interleaving of keen beats and sly sine-wave bass with crackerjack melodies. Overall though this record feels like home. Not made-in-bedroom home, but that complex mix of stimuli that combine to evoke the simple gestalt of home, however one defines it. At times Retic turns to a pastoral, near-ambient vibe with \"The Successful Begin Sleepwalking,\" following it up by mashing that vibe with industrial percussion on \"Trunk Junk.\" Retic is quite skillful at mixing the two, adept enough to bring in elements of classic IDM on \"Lose My Gain\" and soundscapes as well. The mashup, finally playing itself out in the culture at large, finds here new life simply by returning to its roots -- mixing disparate moods, not disparate artists. At times approaching alchemy, Saturn Day Trajectory continues to surprise and evolve over repeated plays, especially on headphones.\" - Jerico Maxim / Igloo Magazine
“I love it. Tranquil, spooky, and blissful.” - Sean S./aka. Machsymbiont
“You have a great ear for harmony and melody”
\"Too many 1/2 time drums layered over each other - sounds a bit \'manic\' which is not my vibe.\"
“This is just the best stuff I\'ve heard. With the volume of people doing electronic music these days, it\'s tough to find anything that stands out, but you\'ve managed to reinvent.”
\"Great texture. You should work towards a more interesting melodic structure.\"
“You have an incredible sound and capacity for new ideas in the upcoming music generation”
\"So busy that it was hard to form an honest opinion. Just too much goin\' on.\"
\"Not enough variation to keep me interested. Didn\'t feel like it really went anywhere.\"
“I really enjoyed the tracks you\'ve linked to. Warm and dreamy stuff”

Fits right in with BoC, Bola, Plone, Plaid. If you'd have told me that this was on Warp I wouldn't have batted an eye. It's that good!

this is some of the best electronic I have heard in awhile. The complex construction of beats along side the sultry layers give this album a uniqueness in its own. Experimental and organic, a must for the electronic enthusiast!

Flowing melodies, catchy beats, and the feel of a nice sci-fi movie. Great listening music, perhaps a dark comfortable club.
