Reuben can be counted among today's wave of performers whose primary focus is on revealing personal experience through expertly crafted songs that touch the heart with searing emotional honesty.
Growing up in San Francisco, Reuben studied at alternative music schools with a variety of eclectic and masterful musicians including Tom Constanten, the original keyboardist for the Greatful Dead.
When Reuben was 17, he moved to New York to attend NYU on a full scholarship where he continued to study music.
He entered the downtown scene as the original pianist for Antony and the Johnsons, winner of this year's Mercury Music Prize.
Reuben soon formed his own band comprised of local music scene luminaries. Reuben is influenced by American classic pop, rock, and soul. His heroes are Goffin and King, the Funk Brothers, the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, and Prince.
Reuben's acclaimed debut album "DUSK" received the 2003 Out Music Award for Outstanding Debut Recording.
Reuben's highly anticipated follow up album "Golden Boy" is now available.

Hanging on every note!
author: Gersham Hayden Weekes
This CD is over four years old and sounds as fresh and current as anything heard on contemporary radio today. A pastiche of funk, soul, alternative and progressive rock makes this a true treasure in the pantheon of pop. Don't deny yourself the pleasure!

One of the best CD's I've bought in a long time.
author: Ran Waite "OutWords"
This is one of the most refreshing CDs that I've heard in a very long time. I enjoyed this CD on the very first listen--which is pretty unusual today. Reuben Butchart wrote the songs, sang them, played many of the musical instruments, plus produced and arranged this CD. His voice is wonderful--it swirls around his words with incredible smoothness, and the music made me sit up and take notice. I'm not surprised that this CD received mention in several publications, and there was no doubt that he would receive an OMA for this work. "Dusk" is an incredible debut CD from this incredibly talented musician.
