A great bassist!
author: Todd Garrison
Reuben shows a nice balance of solid fundamentals and flashy double-bass magic. This is an excellent album. The mix of island music and jazz is a great combo, and makes for a unique sound.

HOUSE OF JOY
author: Joe Locke
For me, this CD satisfies on every level - wonderful compositions, replete with deep grooves and gorgeous
melodies, executed by some of the best young masters
on the scene. Those who follow jazz know that Nicholas
Payton, Joshua Redman, Mark Whitfield, Greg Hutchinson,
Aaron Goldberg, Ron Blake and David Gilmore always come to play, and they certainly do here!
Supported, cajoled and egged on by the leader's great bass
lines, all the soloists on this session turn in high level
performances. These cats have logged alot of hours together,
and there is the sound of solidarity here - members of a
family, happy to be playing with their brother of the bass
on this, his first outing as a leader. And the leader is at the top of his game - acoustic or electric, pizzicato or arco, RR is killin' it! - intellect & soul, plus alot of
joy.
I mentioned the great songs - my faves are Wala Wala,
Anorev, Shed, Philip and Alleviation. You pick your own ..
..there are plenty to choose from!
