When Rick Reuther begins to sing, heads turn! Sounds like Sinatra! Sounds like Bennett! These comparisons alone, while frequent, do not begin to capture the essence of Rick’s stage presence and warmth when entertaining an audience of fans. From tender ballads to swinging grooves, this is a singer in command of his craft.
This CD is a collection of swing and ballad standards by some of the legendary American composers including Jerome Kern, Rogers and Hart, Johnny Mercer, Oscar Hammerstein and Bobby Troop. The project was produced by Reuther and Tom Hagen and recorded at The Tom Hagen Studio in Saranac, MI. The CD features the work of some fine West Michigan musicians, including Early Braggs, “Sweet Willie” Singleton, Tom Hagen, Cherie Lynn, Mike Lutley and Bill Vits, along with guest vocal performances by both Mary Rademacher and Cherie Lynn. Reuther, who counts Bennett, Sinatra, Darrin and Cole as some of his vocal musical influences sings in a clear baritone with always intelligible lyrics.
Born and raised primarily in Michigan, Rick began performing music at an early age and in addition to singing, has worked professionally as a composer, guitarist, actor and voice-over artist.
After graduating from Michigan State University, Rick performed in clubs, hotels and resorts throughout the Midwest and along the East Coast. Two years in Los Angeles performing with the Astrid Cowan Trio preceded his return to Michigan and then Grand Rapids. Acting stints on Unsolved Mysteries, as well as in a host of local commercial productions followed.
Rick has been a featured performer with: Take Five, Astrid Cowan Trio, Opening Act for Pat Paulson, Opening Act for the Four Freshman, Opening Act for O’Brien and Severa, Featured performer for Alticor in Seattle, San Francisco, Long Beach & Houston and at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
