Album Notes

This album deals with two main themes: paradox and recovery. I've been interested in both concepts since I began my seminary studies in 2001. Elegantwicked was written between 2006-2009, and recorded in two studios in or near Chicago. I've been most influenced by classic rock/metal and punk bands such as Thin Lizzy and Bad Brains along with alt-Country punks like Uncle Tupelo. While I love the Old Timey Christian standards of The Carter Family, and certain Jesus Freak tunes from Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Loretta Lynn, I'm drawn to writing more about the experience of the Cross—that thin and dark place that has the greatest potential for resurrection, yet is paradoxically fraught with conflict and despair. Both musical styles showcased on the album give me the freedom to explore this theological landscape.
