Album Notes

Reynold D. Philipsek's family came to America at the turn of the 20th Century and settled farmsteads in Central Minnesota. They came from Eastern Europe. His Polish/Czech family had a great influence on him. His grandfather played guitar and showed him the classic Slavic tune "Dark Eyes" at an early age. With the passing of his parents' generation Reynold was motivated to look back on his unique upbringing and to look back at his early life in general. He references his early interest in Edgar Allan Poe and his study of Latin. There is still a lot of American Jazz and Gypsy Jazz in his music but this new album also incorporates some Eastern European scales and rhythm.
