Two musicians who spend their summers at their Washington Island, Wisconsin, homes, violinist Rachel Ruhman and pianist Joan Reynolds recently finished recording their first CD for RedRoseJazz Productions. The CD , "A Totally Different Rag", which was released early in June, was recorded at Studiomedia in Evanston, IL, and includes both classic rags as well as several contemporary rags. Its title tune was composed by a woman, May Aufderheide, which seemed appropriate for these female artists. Classic ragtime composers Scott Joplin, James Scott, Charles L. Johnson are also well represented on the CD as are several contemporary ragtime composers, including Max Morath, David Thomas Roberts and William Bolcom.

Inspiring music played beautifully!
author: Robert Schwieger
I have always particularly enjoyed the combination of piano and violin for ragtime. Here they are both used to great effect. The arrangements are memorable and do a good job of keeping the repeats fresh. I ran out to play "Snookums" as soon as I finished listening to the album the first time. What a wonderful job!

Elegant ragtime music!
author: Irene Weinberg
I am deeply touched by the music that these two women play together. The combination of the violin and piano brings elegance to the ragtime music that I love so much. The arrangements done by Joan Reynolds are superb. The fact that both Joan Reynolds and Rachel Ruhman are excellent musicians is very apparent as one listens to this CD.

Their soulfull interpretations bring us back with
