song lyrics
emerald man
the moon was cryin'
the stars were sighin
as i was lyin alone
till i heard the steps
of a man who wept
a teardrop made of stone
said
could you be the emerald man
with umber eyes and velvet hands
were you waitin there for me
waitin for the ivory key
emerald man
went to meet the man
on the jasmine sand
with a rose as white as snow
took him by the hand
and we laughed and ran
to the water down below
said
could you be the emerald man
with umber eyes and velvet hands
were you waitin there for me
waitin for the ivory key
emerald man
the sea was singin
the bells were ringin
a late september's song
there we saw sadie
the blue ship's lady
as we were driftin along
said
now i'm beside the emerald man
with umber eyes and velvet hands
he was waitin there for me
waitin for the ivory key
emerald man
ekaneetlee sunrise
he likes to watch the ekaneetlee sunrise comin' up
while he's sippin' from his favorite starry-starry cup
golden glow between the trees
mountain laurel on the breeze
the ekaneetlee sunrise never fades
never a line and no admission at the gate
ev'ry mornin's a surprise
softly painted on the sky
he'll show you a place between the branches of the trees
as he tells forgotten stories of the cherokee
you can see the trail of tears
hear them fallin' in your ears
repeat chorus
he saw a shadow of an eagle at the water's edge
he saw a feather floatin' softly on a river-bed
he said "the eagle's only friend
is the kindness of the wind
repeat chorus

livin' in the sun
we were livin' in the sun
we had found a place to run
holdin' closely to the mare
golden rays on curly hair
we were livin' in the sun
we had found a place to run
chorus
we forgot about september
but i know that we'll remember
jumpin' o'er the garden wall
thinkin' night would never fall
we were livin' in the sun
we had found a place to run
buildin' castles in the sand
scarlet banner in our hands
we were livin' in the sun
we had found a place to run
repeat chorus

the moors
saw a book on the shelf one day
and it just seemed to call my name
told of a gypsy and a girl
took me to another world
heathcliffe was silent -he was dark
and only one could hold his heart
and how cathy loved him too
he was all she ever knew
chorus
and to the moors they'd run away
he'd watch the wind caress her face
and when they'd find a place to rest
she'd lay her head upon his chest
he overheard miss cathy say
she could never take his name
took what he had and went away
and left her standin' in the rain
her spirit never left the heights
lookin' for the candlelight
roamed the earth near 20 years
waitin' for her love so dear
repeat chorus

soldier and the fortune teller
setting...vietnam... during the war
an soldier who is recovering from an injury is walking through a place called VUNG TAU when he sees a fortune teller's shop...he walks into the shop and begins to question her about the lover he left behind in the states...the fortune teller finds that through the reading of his palm in verse 3, that his lover has found someone else....so then she performs a tea-leaf reading in verse 4 and finds a wonderful surprise...a new love...someone who will love him very much...but there is only one problem...while he is a grown man fighting in Vietnam, the love of this life is a sleeping baby....a HAPPY ending !
soldier and the fortune teller
verse 1
she came down from little paris with flyin' stars and candied lotus
she had found the perfect place to teach the pillars of thier fate
verse2
went down to vung tau for some rest with a bindin' for his crest
saw a room with silk and lace and paper roses in a vase
chorus
how far from the handle
wondered if she'd know the answer
how far from the handle
soldier and the fortune teller
payoff
said to her
can you read the leaves
who was born for lovin' me
how far from the handle
how long will it be
verse 3
she held his palm within her hand to see just how his heartline ran
union line was fallin' down with breaks and islands all around
verse 4
then saw HER in the moon and stars
a baby cradled in the dark
far across the ocean miles
it's gonna be a long -long while
repeat chorus
bridge
someday he will notice her
singin' like a lonely love bird
she will love him at first sight
somehow it will turn out right
repeat chorus
ending
how far from the handle
she blew out the candle
then she said
far from the handle

blue roses
still can see us standin' there
in a memory that we share
may have been the end of the line
but for a moment you were mine
you gave me blue roses
blue roses
blue roses
that will never fade
i'll be waitin' there for you
when the sun is on the dew
when you see me standin' there
hold me closer if you dare
and give me blue roses
blue roses
blue roses
that will never fade
when the storm comes rollin' in
open windows , let it in
see the lightnin' , feel the wind
let the rain come pourin' in
and give me blue roses
blue roses
blue roses
that will never fade
