Album Notes

Take one part jazz, two parts Sunday Morning and a pinch of academia and you have the recipe for Rhonda Welsh\'s spoken word. Using poetry, she examines everyday topics through an inspirational lens.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, she approaches poetry the way musicians approach music. \"My poetry is meant to be heard. I always think about the rhythm and the flow of the words. That is as important to me as the message.\"

Her biggest poetic influences are Gil Scott Heron, Nikki Giovanni and Langston Hughes. Rhonda adds an inspirational, jazz-based delivery to pieces about life, love, loss, self-realization and faith.

Rhonda Welsh's voice has a presence like no other. Her CD, I SAW MYSELF, is truly inspirational from beginning to end. I found "Just A Little Girl" particularly moving and well presented. Both spiritual and intellectual, this collection of poetry will truly make one reflect upon their journey through life. I highly recommend the CD to all.

Beautiful! That is the best way to describe \"I Saw Myself\". A rich combination of poignant prose laid on top of smooth as silk rhythms. Slightly sneaky in the way the tempo of her delivery causes you to hang on for the next line while the subjects of her poems infiltrate the stereotypes and preconceptions of your thinking forcing you to reconcile them to her perspectives. At no point do you regret allowing this little invasion as you leave the experience glad for the conversation. My favorites are \"Bailey Temple\", \"Just A little girl\", \"Ungrateful Hateful Words\", and the title track \"I Saw Myself\".
