notes
It was a night of primal rhythms in the heart of the city when Vincenzo (Vinny) Carrasco and Judith Hizer met in the summer of 2002. Vinny was downtown late one night and followed the call of the drums to find Judith and friends jammin'. "She was the best drummer there- not to mention the most beautiful," Vinny says with a smile. Judith remembered Vinny as the sexy drummer who co-taught her first drum class several years earlier.
When the pair first began drumming together, it was obvious magic. Sharing the downbeat, weaving in and out of one another's rhythms, flowing like water, listeners can't help but follow their journey. The journey has taken them through traditional West-African music, jam sessions, global percussion and original compositions.
There's not much that can make this pair as happy as sharing their love of rhythm with the world; and they have done so at festivals, schools, universities, and private events. They see Seventh Chakra as their opportunity to share beyond real-time.
Vinny has been a professional kit drummer for twelve years. He has recorded with rock and fusion bands The Butterfly Effect, The Potables, The Happy Campers, and Driftwood. He has been learning and performing West-African music for six years. He is currently drumming with the blues band Kalamazoo Kenny and the Rhythm Ratz in addition to his music with RhythmWorks!
Judith has recorded with a women's drum circle, and has been a performance poet for the last six years. She has played West-African music for the last year. "Vinny's influence has helped me to stretch myself as a percussionist, and Seventh Chakra was a great way for us to begin our journey as a performance team."

Excellent Music!
author: Quill MastercraftVinny Carrasco has a musical background going back many years and, with his wife Judith Hizer, the two present what real drumming is all about: Seventh Chakra. The tracks - both original compositions and arrangements of traditional Middle Eastern and African songs - have lively rhythms which make the listener want to get up and dance, with abandon and joy. And while it might be thought only so much can be done with djembes, djun-djuns and shakers, Rhythm Works defies that stereotype with their skill and creativity. Their music encourages others to find the rhythm within themselves, and leaves you wanting more.
