Alison has emerged as an engaging songwriter, relflecting the deep roots of country/western and folk tradition. She is a veteran of Oregon's Portland music scene, having performed with the popular Northwest bands, Country Al and His Pals, Trigger's Revenge, Yankee Hula, and as a duo with Keeter Stuart. From stone cold c & w to folk, Wagon Wheel Rut is a great collection of music, multi-layered and receiving great reviews.
Her performing band, that is garnering local acclaim, are Dan Miller (acoustic guitar), Birger Olsen (mandolin/slide guitar/singer and songwriter), Rob Schrecongost (bass),and Hal Gerard (acoustic guitar and vocals). Alison Rice and The Wheel are soon to release a new collection of material. They are currently performing in the Portland area.

I received this CD from the artist directly, and can only say it is one of the better recordings I have heard in a long time. Heartfelt lyrics, outstanding vocals and superb musicianship are only three of the scores of reasons to purchase this disc....Allison Rice is a true TREASURE and deserves much more exposure... this CD is really excellent, it offers a close-up and sometimes very humorous listen to the heart and soul of American Folk Art...BUY IT!!

Authentic, heartfelt, sometimes raw but never jaded--just beautiful.
author: Don Olson
In all these tunes, it is the authenticity of experience that comes through in Ms. Rice’s voice: it is soulful, it is scarred, it is philosophical, but it is never jaded. The emotions are as sharp or as tender as a teenager’s, but filled with flesh and blood and the pain of living in the world overcome by the joy of surviving it with courage and luck.
After I’d discovered this CD, just to be sure I wasn’t biased in favor of someone from my generation, I played it for some eighteen-year-old college freshmen where I teach. “That’s so beautiful,” and “What a cool song,” and “I got chills” are among the responses I got, so I know that my ear is not too narrowed by the ages. They loved it. So will anyone who hears "Wagon Wheel Rut."
