Album Notes

Richard Anderson has been performing since the 1990’s.

He was part of Glasgow’s indie guitar scene then as one of the founder members of The Salad Days with Singer/lyricist Sheridan and Fratelli’s bass player Barry Fratelli. Together they gigged in 1995 doing a number of shows for Beatbox Promotions with songwriter John McLaughlin pushing. Anderson wishing to branch out on his own left The Salad Days after playing Glasgow Ten Day Weekend Festival at the end of that year and the group thereafter disbanded. A cassette single exists of three early songs, which Fratelli fans should check out!

The following year saw Richard form his own combo Red Shelley who played in Glasgow during 1996 and 97 doing a number of university gigs and recording a couple of EPs These were the first experiences of singing publicly and fronting a band.

Anderson was becoming unhappy with his day job in Glasgow involving a number of local government posts, and decided to leave the old smoke and return to his hometown to regroup. He had originally left Annan, Dumfriesshire where he was born and raised, for Glasgow at the age of eighteen to study social sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University.

Not being naturally a big city animal Richard returned to Annan in 1998 and spent the next two years working on his singing and songwriting. He was encouraged and helped by a bass played called Henry Race who had been involved in music over a long period and had an encyclopaedic knowledge of music. Race’s enthusiasm in Richard’s songs helped to inspire further songs although this renewed enthusiasm drew Richard back to Glasgow once again.

At the end of 2000 Richard started playing solo acoustically around the open-stage circuit in Glasgow, particularly at the Glasgow Songwriters Club where he was voted ‘Best Newcomer’ for 2001. His Tuesday night performances there helped solidify his performing skills and he went on to play slots at Glasgow’s King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut (opening for Dean Owens and Oh Susannah), Acoustic Affair, Stereo, Nice n Sleazy’s as well as appearances at Celtic Connections

‘Set packed full of memorable songs’ Glasgow Songwriter’s Magazine.

Radio producers were beginning to take notice of the Annan songsmith also. ‘Celtic Connections’ on BBC Radio Scotland took up the cause of ‘I’m not getting into conversation’, an EP recorded in a Gorbals bedroom.

So Richard worked with David Scott of The Pearl Fishers to produce an album neatly names “Songs that chose me” and now in 2008, having heard and signed Richard Loose Records are proud to present Richard’s current album release

To coincide with his album release ‘Songs that chose me’ Richard Anderson has completed a couple of tours of Scotland. He followed that by performing in some London clubs including Leonards, Tommy Flynns, Camden Town and The Comedy Pub in Oxenden St. He also opened for Peter Bruntnell at The Anchor Inn Barcombe which was a birthday bash for promoter, Mike Lance. Look out for him near you soon!
