The new Richard Ashe CD, "108" include 14 songs which blend acoustic and electronic instruments with world class production and exotic sonic linguistics.
108 is one of Richards most visual releases yet, this is interesting because Richard is also a visual artist and animator.
There is a parallel between the language of this music and the lyrical movement of his visual art.
A combination of his animations and music will soon be available.
In the paste Richard was mostly know for his work as a music engineer and producer working with such groups and members of Funkadelics, Bela Fleck and a long list of artist over his years recording.
His music has been heard world-wide over the past decade and continues to grow into more unique and complex blends.
This CD was long in production because of the complexity of the material. Richard was also joined by musicians Joe Ebel and J.P.Delanoye whose considerable musical skills bring some wonderful moments to this recording.
On this CD the focus was on the harmonic and geometric nature of music. Much of the percussion used is melodic ( hang drums, marimba, bells, etc.) allowing the core structure of the music to resonate with the main melodic content of the songs.
The orchestration also builds on top adding a wide range of string instruments ( zithers, 3 guitar players, violin) Tuvan throat singing, flutes, recorders, melodica, and some very interesting electronic instruments.
The result is a very unique musical experience that remains melodic, interesting and deep. On this CD the music of Richard Ashe has matured to a new level that is hard to characterize in any specific genre as the influences are broad and varied.
The result is something both interesting and entertaining for many listens to come.
