Album Notes

Richard Bennett, studio guitarist for 41 years and currently playing with Mark Knopfler, steps forward as a leader with Themes From A Rainy Decade, an album of self penned, thematic guitar instrumentals. The 12 songs cover a breathtaking variety of styles that remain focused around Bennett's unmistakeable guitar tone and melodies that you'll be able to whistle after you've heard them.

From the liner notes of Themes From A Rainy Decade, Mark Knopfler writes, "For almost ten years now I've felt very lucky having Richard Bennett as a pal and as a member of the band. His quiet, self-effacing manner hides an encyclopaedic knowledge of all kinds of roots and rock music, from Hillbilly to Hawaiian, played effortlessly on a variety of instruments which appear out of a flight case as big as an Airstream trailer...... May his cracking guitar playing find a place in your life as it has in mine."

It's something of a "Master Class"...echoes of past masters and styles...from Chet Atkins to Duane Eddy to Hank Marvin & the Shadows to the Ventures to... (fast forward) to Mark Knopfler to... well- Richard Bennett! I can only add to the accolades already listed here.

4 DECADES OF MEMORIES

40 yrs plus in the business, Richards "Long List" is certainly that "Long" !! His immpecble playing style is so easy to listen to, his accomplishments are many, but the accolades fallon the (pardon the word) "Star" But i have over the past months been searching Video music records and it is no surpise to see that Face on so so many of them, from Petula Clark Via Thelonious Moog to Neil Diamond and on to Mark Knopfler.... Taking in such as Lonnie Donegan on the way, as well as Chet Atkins, how diverse can one man be. needless to say, i await his next album with bated breath... if it is even half as good as "Themes" it will be brilliant.............. Thanks Richard....for the pleasure !!

the best CD i have listened to in a while

I thoroughly enjoyed this work by Richard. I sensed a fusion of the evocative Hank Marvin stylings with more influences that Richard uniquely brought to the tracks. The tracks have a lovely span and are tastefully arranged. The guitar playing is wonderfully sensitive and with a lot of attention to detail. I also enjoyed the steel guitar breaks greatly, they added a new dimension and combine well with the strat. Lovely tone in all the tracks. Bravo!
